Under the Road Traffic Act, any motorist involved in an accident where a person or an animal is injured must stop to help the victim.The Act defines an animals as any horse, cattle, ass, mule, sheep, pig, goat or dog.
For the benefit of motorists, the SPCA would like to highlight that under the Road Traffic Act, a driver of a vehicle that is involved in a road accident whereby damage or injury is caused to any person, vehicle, structure or animal, that driver must stop and render assistance and report the accident to the police within 24 hours. If any person fails to comply, he would be guilty of an offence. These are SPCA’s guidelines for drivers if they hit an animal on the road:-

1. Stop the vehicle and check if the animal is injured.

2. Move the animal to a safe area if necessary.

3. If the animal is injured, pick it up and bring it to the nearest veterinary clinic or the SPCA. Alternatively, call the SPCA emergency line at 62875355 (ext 9) and wait for our Animal Rescue Officer to arrive.

4. Report the accident to the police within 24 hours.

happened to us before: once we were driving along east coast when a bird from nowhere hit our windscreen and fall to one side of our car.
We were shocked but luckily the windscreen was not damaged and we did not know what happened to the bird. Maybe it did a kamikaze stunt.
