Strongly agree, this is the most headache now, I think we need to work hard, smart and more patiently atleast two years until DSs can manage themselves.I was very worried about the computer usage before when a senior pre-warned me about the amount of time her son spent on computer gaming in sec 1 & 2. I was told, when her DS was allowed to bring his notebook to school in sec 2, the kids started to hangout at nearby fast food chain to play. Also with smart phones, it becomes harder to supervise the undesirable websites they go to. Luckily or unlikely this year in sec 3, the workload has increased so much that her DS has no time to continue with his 'nonsense', as she puts it.
I do not think checking EMB takes up that much time as there are no more than 5 messages a day and most do not require any response. What needs supervision is the use of facebook. It is a distraction as messages keep popping up every other second, many of which are non productive / undirected discussions. One just cannot focus when in the middle of work, the phone keeps beeping or vibrating. For that I set firm rules, no messing around with the phone in the middle of a piece of work. Any questions or doubts if help is needed should be clarified before or after at one go.
Other than that, there is very little else we can do to reduce computer time. Doing up notes, putting up ppts, researching or working on IS related projects, they all take time. I would rather they put in good effort than to rush to complete them. -
Hi, will like to know whats is this \"IDS\" event in march that Ortus consortium is having? Will the rest of the consortium also be having this \"IDS\" soon? As the school calendar didnt indicate so... :scratchhead: Can any Ortus Parents advise? TIA

Hi Chandelier, IDS is a field trip organised by the school. At the end of the trip, students r to work in groups & submit their project on the field trip as part of the ace. For the past 2 yrs, it has been included in the term 3 ace but I'm not sure if the same applies for this yr since the event is now in T2. -

Just planning ahead. Is there school on the first 2 days of the sabbatical week? What is happening on those days?
Also, for March holidays, other than CCA commitments, are there another activities? -

Hi Parents, I wonder did your DS ever have any irresponsible teammates who were either sick or slack in doing project work like Ace project!!! My DS did almost all the slides by himself even during test period while his friends did nothing in contribution. Worst of all they did not even know the importance of the Project that carries substantial weightage in their overall msg. I wonder how can such students be suitable in IP programme. Furthermore in this consortium! They will make all sorts of lame excuse for not turning up for the discussions or meeting. How sad :stompfeet:
Is there any Ace project that is group work? So far I only know of IS project which other than choosing the category and getting the mentor, very little work has been done.
