MOE Relooking P1 registration - Too much priority to alumni
-
Swiss Cottage, yes I had some friends from that school. Lovely school, lovely campus. I wish that MOE would stop just closing down schools. If the enrollment for a school drops, they could merge schools, and have the newly merged recognize alumni fr both schools. It’s bad enough most of the neighborhoods we grew up in have disappeared, must our alma maters disappear too?

Sad to say, Swiss Cottage was merged with another school.
I had a great time there...if it's still around, I would register my son in that school. Lovely school and lovely principal. -
Actually, i feel that 2A1 and 2A2 is almost the same.
We should keep this phase as we need to aknowledge that the ex-students makes up the history of the school tru hardwork. They contribute in every little ways they could while they are in school to bring up the standard of the school (not forgetting the teachers and principal), so why are we taking away it away? -

I think there is a high tendency for locals to link priority given to citizens and alumni issue because there is no clear objectives/ principles / directions given from MOE on matter of registration. Nothing has been stated by the minister so far, right? Hence people are still casting doubts, and basing their judgements on what they see happening around them.
Once this preference on citizen is out of the question, alumni or not becomes easier and clearer - at least it will be for me. -
Singaporeans and PRs have been lumped together for all sort of statistics when they should be clearly separated… This includes education, employment numbers, housing, etc… How many of you feel ‘at home’ when you are out and about, whether on the train, bus or in the shopping malls, hands up? We are fast becoming ‘extinct’ in our own country!

What abt the sec school? MOE kinda chased them from their original site and I doubt they ever rebuild the school premises....maybe used it once or twice as a holding school site....now it's taken over by some Intl school.

And isn't it quite a big site where it used to house both pri and sec schools? -

I 'Kee Chiu' (hands-up)...most of the time when I take MRT, I felt I am in a foreign country..

I am definitely for Phases 1 to 2A2…In fact I would think that students whose siblings have studied in the school before should be placed in Phase 1 together with siblings currently studying there (in case the age gap between the siblings is bigger than 5 years). Am not really for Phases 2B(2) and (3) and feel that schools should be very mindful with the PVs especially after hearing stories like Zoe Tay and husband’s efforts going down the drain despite putting in hours of ‘free labour’. The balloting thing is also perplexing…agree with another parent who mentioned that giving the SG’s 2 slips vs PR’s 1 slip doesn’t give priorty to SG citizens at all…
I’m just keeping my fingers crossed that Phase 2A1 and A2 remain and hope that the rest of the phases can be tweaked to give SG citizens more priority. And please…get some of the branded schools out of that certain stretch of road and abolish GEP altogether since I don’t see any real purpose in it anyway. All schools should have a talent programme instead and be given equal amount of resources to run it. -
I just called MOE and ask them afew questions.
1) May i know will the changes affect kids who are gg to reg for P1 this years?
ans : Sorry, we dont know.
2) Then may i ask wh group of pple will be affected? Is it alumni/PV/Clan/GRC etc??
Ans : Sorry we dont have the details yet!!
3) When will the changes be annouced then?
Ans : let me check about this and after 5 mins, the officer called me and said changes likely to be announced by May but not sure if it will take effect immediately anot??
I must say i m very disappointed with the answers i have received. Have the policy makers thought about the how the changes will affect parents who have made adjustments or plan for the P1 Reg? Although i do not know what will the changes be and who it will affect, i cannot help but to wonder why do they have to do it now? I really do hope they have gathered enough infor and checked with real parents on the ground before making/ implementing any changes which may affect parent in any of the group.
