2012 PSLE Discussions and Strategy

All of you are talking about CA1 but my ds school don’t have CA1 but they call it as Mastery which is useless. For english there is no cloze and OE compre. For MT they just did compo. Math just tested on the topics that was covered in school. I am lost, I don’t even know where my ds stands unless I get him to do a past year CA1 paper.

I once doubt my dd learning ability :? until i found out that the problem was with me a complacent mom by Singapore standardblessed777:
DS' English Teacher gave out 2 English compos in the past month and a half. Yesterday was DS' English exam and today, I found out that Teacher had not returned the 2 compos. What's the use of giving out compos to do if you don't return them in time for the exam? TWO some more.
The high literacy rates my son has that allows him to read and summarize this - http://www2.hn.psu.edu/faculty/jmanis/franklin/a_b_benf.pdf... with the help of this - http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/visual-writing-anne-hanson/1101083691... is definitely no thanks to his Teacher.
The credit should come to me for the time I spent teaching him and the money I throw at his American online enrichment module provider. The only thing the system does to raise literacy rates is to test well above the norm so that parents like me are compelled to spend time and money to help our kids cope.
In other words, the credit for Asia's high literacy rates devolves to parents, NOT a system that gives easy questions for homework but tests way beyond... nor a system that assigns writing assignments of 5 sentences for homework but in exams require compositions of 4 to 5 A4 single-lined writing.
I thought if i m not aiming dd to be top student i can let her learn at her own pace n enjoy her childhood more, n i dont hv to be a Tiger mom. Its not a healthy system we hv here, the reason given for difficult psle paper is to cater to 'children with higher ability'. in some country such children r allowed to jump level hence no need to raise the bar fr them n let other kids suffer. MOE should not let the education standard define by some tiger moms n let the rest struggle to follow hence lead to stressfull family life, n lost childhood... The western ppl prefer their kids to experience their childhood to the fullest, let kids be kids n grow with healthy mentality

Dd just came back n frustrated by her CA1 math pp, everyone almost cry in front of the paper. Such lousy strategy back fire to the kids, they gave up halfway n do anyhow according to dd. Im disappointed n told dd that she is not expected to be able to do most of them, but giving up during exam is not an option, its a let down mentality she still need to try her best although the result may not be what she desire, but im more upset with the system because they need to be mindfull with the children mentality well being.

DS bounced in the car looking jubilant. I thought that he had found the CA1 easy. Instead, he said \"Mom! It was a KILLER! I couldn't do THREE!\". I asked him why he was so happy. He said \"Because, everyone got slaughtered. I'm not alone. The guy who got 100 marks in P5 SA2, couldn't do THREE also!! So not bad lah hah?\" :faint:
I wasn't sure how to react so I proposed to go to Dempsey Rd for lunch.
When in doubt how to react, talk about something pleasant. -

Ha! My son will also react likewise if it is a difficult paper. Unfortunately, the EL and Maths papers had been easy and he is worried now because he is more careless than others!DS bounced in the car looking jubilant. I thought that he had found the CA1 easy. Hi,
Thanking for your sharing your thoughts and tips about this CA1 exam. I’m feeling so much better to hold on my anxiety over my DS.
For me, I learnt a very good lesson when my DS suddenly fall sick on Satursday after his CCA activity follow by tuition. He laid flat on bed throughout the weekend. I’m so stress up and worried. Stay healthy is so important, this a wake up call. Can you imagine this happen during PSLE?
During his past months tight schedule plus he can’t really focus when during work that dragged into his sleeping time. This whole week is his 5 subjects exam and the paper runs like PSLE, paper 1 before recess and follow by paper 2. Can you imagine that kind of feeling holding back my norm self not to do any revision with him as time really running out and I worried I go ‘crazy’ during the journey of revision. He cried yesterday at 10pm due to this is the 1st time I did not go through I single question with him. I just ask him to go through his school file and tuition file mistake.
Really hard to express my inner feeling to him…
When he returned from school immediately I hugged him and passed him a simple message " Good Job Son, as every single marks you obtain in this exam is all your own effort! " He smiled.
Now, I just puy my finger crossed and hope prayed everything will go well. -

I can so relate... cheer her up!!! :rahrah: :rahrah: :rahrah: -
The irony... the only paper that my DD is cheerful about is the only subject she did not study for... MT!!!
C'mon mums, give our kids a BEEEEEEG HUG and let's pick them up and move on in this journey.
This is not even a battle... it's just a trial before the main event.

a good motivational video to learn not to give up n to finish strong... life is not about school exam, there are real tests in this life that they will face... so learn to hv right mentality is more important..
