Kids should be children of Singapore citizens.
For cases when family is outstationed, kids' birth will be registered with embassy..he/she will be PR of that country of birth but still a Singapore citizen.

Wah lao. So based on your definition, my kids are 2nd-class even though they are Singapore Citizens, just bc my DH is a S'pore PR??? He has contributed to the economy for the last 25 yrs already .

That is precisely my point. Btw, this belongs to SG kids thread.
While we feel strongly about the new PRs coming in to dominate the scene, we should remember the PR group has different levels. Similarly some people also feel that citizens and new citizens should be differentiated. I don't have the solution to please all, just want to highlight when we discuss this, we need to be wary that there are established PRs amongst us as well. As much as we try not to break ourselves into groupings and stay integrated, I believe some level of granularity is unavoidable. Just my 2 cents worth.[/quote]
Thank goodness my kids are already in the school system. But if any new changes are unfavourable to my no.4's P1 registration, I will  ... and Mr Heng will be certain to get more than 2 cents' worth of explosives from me.

      .

hope that Mr Heng can announce changes much earlier by next month March, instead of having to wait until May so long.

sooner or later got to hear. might as well hear earlier.
many affected alumni parents from the 2006, 2007, 2008 batch have no peace now. All so stressed up!

If changes are announcing and taking effect in May , parents like myself with child reg for P1 this year will be left with NO time to react… first the redrawn of the GE boundaries which totally screw up our plan and now this…does our government have any idea how hard it is to be parents in Singapore??

Not only may affect alumni parents, Phase 2b may also be affected.

Yes, becknat68. fully understand our plight ! 😢 :frustrated: :slapshead: :stupid: :stompfeet:

your batch 2006 and my batch 2007 are the worst hit, bec we got NO time to react. Unfair to us!

because if we fail to ballot in under 2A, at least we still can try for 2B chance, if we had PV. But bec the sudden news only came out last week, our 2 batches no time to react, no time to apply PV. for 2007 batch, most schools had already closed PV application last year, on 31 Dec 2011.

              a) if MOE want to implement changes wef this year directly impacting 2006 alumni batch, MOE ought to have announced the news sometime back in 2009 - so that affected 2006 alumni parents are mentally prepared, in time to apply for alternative backup route 2B application, which was open from January 2010 to Dec 2010.

              b) if MOE want to implement changes wef 2007 alumni batch, MOE should have announced the news sometime back in 2010 - so that affected 2007 alumni parents are mentally prepared, got time to apply for alternative backup route 2B application, which was open from January 2011 to Dec 2011.

now, where got time if we fail during balloting 2A ? PV application all closed! we are cornered dead end & caught in a dilemma!

at least for 2008 affected alumni, they're still in time to offer PV under 2B, over and above 2A. You may apply 2B, open now from January 2012 to Dec 2012.

from 2008 batch onwards, once they cap alumni seats, for those affected parents keen to send child back to alma mater, once you fail in 2A balloting, the alternative backup strategy is to execute 2B, provided the new changes introduced doesn't lump 2A and 2B together. This means it'll cause 2B to be more intense - now comprising (those failed at 2A balloting want to have a second shot, PVs, GRL, Clan).

but if the new rules say combine (2A and 2B) together - then once alumni fail at 2A balloting, your only chance left is 2C. Die, die must go in at 2C. Most of the vacancies would have been taken by end 2C, for popular schools.

Understand the concern with low income families. Yes, I agree there are some that will be disadvantaged no matter what choice is made. Then again, it's not just low income, there are some pp whose work brings them out of town for long/frequent stretches - so these people may not have been able to fill the required hours as well.

Yes, and also not to forget the single parent families.

                    downtime:
the moe review should include new priority for parents to enrol children near their work place. This will reduce the trafffic congestion for parents rushing from point A to B. Along parents to attend to their children matters easily during the lunch break, or whichever deem reasonable by their company policy.

If children school is just across the street, 1 hour time off is sufficient for parents to attend urgent matters.

I believe this will contribute to work-life balance and a mother who has to juggle between work, home and children.
What happens if you change jobs?

I probably sound heartless but seriously, how are we to accommodate every personal situation and tragedy. I empathize with the issues some may face - no time to do pv etc etc. but the thing is, if you do extra work, you get a chance to register early where no ties exist between parents and school. If you don’t (by choice or circumstance), there are good schools around too.

Not all schools equal. But certainly if one can’t spare the time, a place is assured for the child still. Else how? Set aside quota for the disadvantaged kids in each school? Then the advantaged will suddenly become disadvantaged.

Let’s return to the alumni point la. Sorry for having wandered away. My friends with young children are holding their breath now, wondering if joining the alumni was such a sure thing after all.
