The time management tips are very useful, but how many parents will have the time, energy, ability, guts, whatever, to

(1) plan and manage a child's time and curriculum;
(2) suss out the useful from the unproductive resources;
(3) see to the child's physical (enough rest and sleep) and mental and psychological well being;
(4) sieve out useless homework assignments.

I feel errr, pretty inadequate to handle these. No wonder many parents are feeling overwhelmed.

When your child is in pain, a mother will find the resources somehow. There are tutors... When push comes to shove, MOE knows that parents are emotionally invested in our child. They make use of this to help their schools do well.

Exactly so!!! Each mother will weigh out how much she can stand seeing her child in pain. Some of us will go through a period of denial, thinking things will get better, then feel lost when things get worse, then get angry and then finally .....Me, I - the MOTHER of my child will do SOMETHING!!!

Dear Doodbug, Take baby steps..pick one thing to try out with your child...experience small successes, let your child redeem his confidence & belief that he is good enough, that the gaps are not his fault....many reasons for his not doing well is multi-factorial and beyond his control. But let him know \"MUMMY will do something to help you!!!\"

Hubs n I opted for DD to be exempted from supplementary lessons after school. No trouble whatsoever after brief follow up call by Teacher after our note/request. She even offered to extend resources/materials from what they do in the afternoon should I want to hv extra for her to cover at home. :please: it's nice to have understanding teachers, who also understand a child's sufficient rest is above anything else.

My p1 girl is telling me about her classmates all having extra classes and tution. She proceeds to tell me that one top girl in her class having 8 enrichments per week : dancing, ice skating, roller blading, drawing, maths enrichment ,piano, english enrichment, chinese enrichment :yikes:

ya plus a lot assessment books to complete every night. My girl is saying her classmate complains to her that if she never finishes the assessment books, her mummy will scold her. So 8 enrichments + assessment books at night , so far what i understand from my girl is that her classmates gets full marks for Maths and english test and A grade for art(which my girl is complaining why she keep getting B and must be because i never send her for art class :skeptical: )

Having the Rich factor is not enough. Some rich also take it easy. They must have the KS factor too.

Having the Rich factor is not enough. Some rich also take it easy. They must have the KS factor too.

suspect only child loh so can pour in all resources into 1. cos my best fren used to pour all her monthly income for her first born. $2k to $3k for enrichments for her first born until the second one comes along, she has to cut some enrichments for first born to channel into second one. at least paid off cos her first born got into GEP class. my fren is those parent who worked until midnight during weekdays and have no time to coach her son so she is leaving everything to enrichment teachers to teach

It is whether she spend the money now or later. Of course not everyone is as lucky as your friend.
