MOE Relooking P1 registration - Too much priority to alumni
-
Just remove PV and grassroots. Everything else retain. And Singapore citizens kids with both parents who are Singapore citizens have priority.
The rest, like those with one parent PR and the other parent SG citizen, and all foreigners last priority. -

possible...but only admin can tell by ip track
No need to speculate, I'm not another poster who is afraid of being associated with. I have been a passive reader of KSP but when I read the selfish suggestion of capping phase 1 to transfer seats to phase 2A...because the people in phase 2A felt `threatened' that the alumni might have to give up their priority (mind you, its just pure speculation that alumni are targeted), I'm compelled to rebut that suggestion. It was not to attack phttph per se, but the suggestion itself.limlim:
IDad is it existing member in this thread that dun dare to review true identify? Created new acct just to attack Phttph?!
Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.......
Since there are so many proposals put forward, I might as well throw 1 in the ring.
Phase 1: Keep phase 1 intact, ie sidlings automatically qualify and parent is a staff of the school. Balance of seats goes to next phase.
Phase 2: Merge all the PV, GRL, Alumni, Board Memeber priority and ex-sidlings into 1 phase and if more applicants than vacancies, ballot based on distance proximity (rental included). By putting all the `priority' schemes into 1 pot, it will eliminate the discussion which group of volunteers is entitled to greater priority. All are treated the same, fairest way.
Phase 3: All other applicants.
The new scheme should take effect for children born 2008 onwards.
I deliberately avoided the discussion of PRs and foreigners as I'm a Singaporean and I'll be biased and I also think it should be discussed in another thread. -
I just called MOE hotline and asked if there's any updates as to when the new policies for P1 registration kicks in.
CS replied, \"Hold the line please and let me do a quick check if there is any information on this yet.\"...(waited almost 3 min)..
\"I am sorry, there is no information yet. Pls call again in end May or early Jun. There will be more information by then.\"
I guess it will be release just in time before P1 registration but may not be a major change though. Putting all the inputs from the parents together, I hope siblings, alumni (active members only) and distance get the priorities.
Honestly I think grassroots and PV is not that important because these people tend to disappear after their kids get a place in the school. It is even sad for those who clocked in the number of hours but in turn get balloted out. A strong parent support group (PSG) is more important than PV as those in PSG are the ones who will continue to contribute to the school till their children complete PSLE.
Foreigners - those on expatriate package usually put their kids in international schools and not local schools. (not much concern to us)
Foreigners - non expat. these are the people who will consider local schools. 1 of my colleagues is thinking of applying PR for herself so that her kids can get priority to local schools. However, she will let her children decide if they want to be S'pore citizen when they turn 18. If the boys want to as the concern is that they need to serve NS. They want the best of both worlds!
PR - Length of stay in S'pore should be considered. If they have been staying here for more than 5 years and the kids are born in S'pore, they do deserve some priority.
Anyway, I do not understand why MOE has to disclose a bit of information, keep a little and keeping people in suspense. I rather they release all information at one go! For sure, some will be happy and some sad but I rather know it early.
If I bump into Mr Heng, I will definitely tell him that all schools are TOTALLY not the same. I came from a neighbourhood primary school and I know it best! Sometimes I do pity those young teachers who are posted to those not too good neighbourhood pri school. Having graduated with lots of passion in teaching but the cruel reality is that you teach and teach (totally committed) but see little or no results. Students background are different from those in elite schools. Same amount of effort, you see the results in the better schools.
MOE should start to bridge the gap between the lower tier neighbour schools and those SAP/GEP schools. Do in depth analysis why these schools, after 10 years, still cannot produce PSLE score > 275. Why the % of quality passes is consistently low every year? Principals issues or \"feng shui\" of the school? Till then, do not comment that schools are the same. -

:boogie: Whatever change the gov makes, it will benefit some and it is definitely gonna hurt some! :xedfingers: -
Power Puff:
Quite worried. Son is entering P1 in 2014, husband recently joined the Cat High alumni to guarantee a place for him. Now, do I have to join the alumni to ensure daughter gets a place in RGPS in 2017? May even be expected to do PV. Long way to go, but anything can happen within the next 5 years. I just checked and am shocked that the membership fee is $500, at least 10 times CHS'.
@PowerPuff: its gd le, NYPS is 1K.My hb was saying cheaper to join alumini then get a unit within 1km but now floating -
come to a such a time like this .... i strongly feel that it is high time for MOE to explore set up a task force committee, perform feasibility study consider set up new branches for branded schools, in different parts of SG - to cater to the growing demanding future needs of all (SG citizens, PR, foreigners) long term solution, into the next 30 years. Move some out of congested Newton - Bukit Timah belt, to HDB heartland areas.

b) those schools currently with poor, low student enrolment rate - merge them together, give it a brand new name, release a new lease of life, a fresh hope perspective, place a new Principal with many years of proven strong leadership experience to manage the newly merged schools, study how to incorporate \"Best Practices Academic Value Added\" teaching methodology, \"Best Practices Innovative / Creative\" Teaching style, \"Best Practices Noble Character Education & Morals\", etc, into the school. Anything that is good, noble, of value addedness, inject into the school, grow from there. -
Too many goods schools round bt area.
Acsp, Acsj, sjij, rgsp, scgsp, nyp,ph. Maybe should move some to nsew areas.

Then....don't think will affect 2006 child reg this year? By June, PV for 2012 intake will have fulfilled their hrs!I just called MOE hotline and asked if there's any updates as to when the new policies for P1 registration kicks in.

I guess it will be release just in time before P1 registration but may not be a major change though.

Anything, so long as they announce before phase 1, can be implemented and made effective. Imagine if they scrap PV priority with immediate effect - I just told my friend this afternoon that I would cry if that happen .

LOLMum:
The issue lies with too many wanting to go branded schools and places in these schools are insufficient to cater to all. So the problem might still exist even if these schools move.Too many goods schools round bt area.
