Parents, not enrichment centres, are key to result

Donno lah... no need to crack our brains to help MOE think of good ideas to improve schools for our kids. If at first they still think

(1) MOE is world class
(2) All schools are same good

... they won't accept any further thinking or suggestions. We must first get them to admit that there is a need to improve mah... One step at a time. No amount of smart stats will help if they deny that there is a need to improve EVEN BASIC TEACHING EFFECTIVENESS in schools.

Isn't the fact that 80% of primary school kids require tutoring from parents, private tutors or enrichment centres a very very clear sign that MOE schools are not doing their job??? Why is our education budget is so low compared to developed nations?

budget is reduced cos we have been inculcated to take education into our own hands and to pay for it ourselves.

Perhaps what the teacher tried to tell is : I believe that u r a smart kid, it's just doesn't show yet in this test (meaning that yr dd has potential to improve).
At first my reaction was anger whenever my kid come home telling me something 'not nice' that her teacher told her/class, but then when I prompted my dd to elaborate what her teacher really said, i sometimes find out that is not really what her teacher saying but it sometimes my dd pick up wrongly or dd has different understanding/perception of what her teacher trying to tell, or sometimes it is her who give wrong wording when trying to tell me what her teacher told her. However, there r also teachers who are not good in motivating kids, or even bad & insensitive teachers.

typically, ks parents will say go and find a good tutor.

my 2-cents is to talk to teacher and find out why. Was the test too difficult? Expectations too high? Did the teachers really teach the areas covered in the tests well? Was your daughter unable to concentrate during the exam? It could have been a freak result just a bad day.
