I dun understand the bell curve - poly bell curve - CCA linkages. They all seem like different topics to me.

My girl lagi best. She comes home, tells me that she did not get full marks for her maths test, her maths teacher tells her\" i thought you are a smart/ clever girl but you are not.'i was like  i asked her what makes the teacher thinks you are smart, she says dun know
could it be the case of selective hearing of an upset kid ? it happens sometimes with my kid. Perhaps what the teacher tried to tell is : I believe that u r a smart kid, it's just doesn't show yet in this test (meaning that yr dd has potential to improve).Chenonceau:
Heard of bullying and mean behavior especially towards those kids who are not academically smart. DD1 told me that her classmates usually bully one girl apparently \"cos she dunno how to answer teacher's questions\".
Yes... this happened to my DS. He came home crying because he was taunted for being a poor student. Well... now he isn't anymore.
At first my reaction was anger whenever my kid come home telling me something 'not nice' that her teacher told her/class, but then when I prompted my dd to elaborate what her teacher really said, i sometimes find out that is not really what her teacher saying but it sometimes my dd pick up wrongly or dd has different understanding/perception of what her teacher trying to tell, or sometimes it is her who give wrong wording when trying to tell me what her teacher told her. However, there r also teachers who are not good in motivating kids, or even bad & insensitive teachers. -

typically, ks parents will say go and find a good tutor.
my 2-cents is to talk to teacher and find out why. Was the test too difficult? Expectations too high? Did the teachers really teach the areas covered in the tests well? Was your daughter unable to concentrate during the exam? It could have been a freak result just a bad day. -
Singfrench:
Go through the paper. Was it a tough paper ? Was your daughter taught all the strategies required to solve those problems ? The score is not a true indication of your daughter's capabilities. Usually CA1 papers are set very tough. If your daughter was stressed, she could have developed a mental block and couldn't continue to solve the problems in her usual calm way.24hr-mum:

Every child is different so I am making reference to my own family. If it were to happen to my DD, given her personality I would be very concerned about her own disappointment and discouragement with the results. First thing first, I’d take her for a roller coaster ride and have a good chill time. Don’t want her pulling her hair out.

Hi 24hr-mum,
My son’s tutor told me Maths is getting harder and harder…the difficulty is brought down to lower primary. So do take a look at the paper. Before that, take your daughter out for ice cream first. -
At this rate, tuition market for parents (for parents not kids) will be a booming business soon.....

IT IS already booming business. parents who complained about the syllabus in the end, succumb to engaging tuition for their kids. because they simply cannot take it if the child fail. or rather, the system does not allow the kid to fail.

Tuition industry is already a booming industry...through sheer necessity.
I could hold back tuition (other than CL) for my son until he was in P5...last year, hubby & I couldn't handle anymore. Started him on Math and he was still struggling for 6 months to cope with the difficulty of the subject.
