As we've invested so much in Sun Xu, I don't think it is a good idea to expel him. It will also make us come across as an ungenerous lot of people. But I think that disciplinary action needs to be taken. NUS can take away his scholarship entitlements for one year. The award can be reinstated if he does well in his studies and makes some effort to give back to the country that is sponsoring his studies.

We need to send a strong message home even if we have invested-
all the more FT that enjoy these priviledges should appreciate it
while some poor Singaporeans folks worked hard to fund this brat

The PRC scholars are not the only ones living in an ivory tower. Sun Xu's view is perhaps extreme, but it is a manifestation of the type of education he has had, which has done nothing to instill good values in him.

Since he's been in Singapore since Sec 3, I think our education system needs to share part of the blame as well. I am very curious to know if any attempt is being made in the top schools to teach students how to relate to people from different backgrounds.

the root was planted before he comes to SG, his ideas and attitude already formed before he landed here. no fair to blame RV / RJ......and worse when he mixes with mainly PRC people ..... just look, he is using weibo, not facebook, and those who responded to his weibo are mostly PRC people ..... fyi, the PRC community in SG is quite well informed, their own forum discussion etc etc in Chinese, which many of us don't frequent them at all

GEP is just 1% of the overall cohort

majority of the students are in express

suggest you remove your remarks about RI students - you are over generalising without evidence, making sweeping statement

every school has black sheep.....reported today a knifing incident among boys in which school ?

RV selects their own PRC scholars. I know for the fact that characters is one of the main criteria for successful selection. Characters that are important are independent, tolerant, forgiving and sociable etc...In fact, top scores may not make it because of the lack of such characters mentioned above. So, you see that RV has the prescient but all selection system may break down occasionally.

But I am not sure if Sun Xu was dropped in by MOE.

Heyyyyyy... chill... :hugs: I think she was just trying to say that segregation by academic results leads to long term social stratification and destroys national unity. And I have personally HEARD top school students diss the \"lesser\" mortals from \"lesser\" schools.
