Raffles Institution (Year 1-4)

friendship:
How many Singaporeans are there in Raffles Academy class this year? There was a year that only one Singaporean in that class, the rest were scholars from Cambodia, Vietnam, and many more.
There isn't one RA class. There are several classes with RA students. I doubt if there's a class with only one Singaporean in it. -

That is right. No class. It goes by subject.friendship:

oic....thank you, PaddyField! Ds taking history test today. Geog test, I heard, it's a take home assignment over the weekend. Will see how ds HCL performance end of the year.Grammar is out of 15, compre I think it's 25. Then DS just got their creative writing assignment yesterday, have to submit by Monday. yesterday also had history test - which tr did not mention. Hopefully he did ok.
I believe HCL n CZl papers r different. The HCL in sec school is also quite a big jump even for those who took HCL in pri schools. -

I feel DS always has tests and I become not knowing when they test what, and only know what they had been tested when DS come back and tell me the test scores, and DS now become does not allow me to check his homework unless he has difficulty and wants my help…I feel I soon become out of the picture liao…
Are your DSs like that? -

Yes most of parents with kids in secondary school will experience this process called 'letting go'I feel DS always has tests and I become not knowing when they test what, and only know what they had been tested when DS come back and tell me the test scores, and DS now become does not allow me to check his homework unless he has difficulty and wants my help...I feel I soon become out of the picture liao...

Shouldn't you be glad that he wants to take ownership of his work? And he does seek your help when he has difficulty. Looks like your son has adjusted well and is matured. And why do you want to check his homework :? Even at upper pri school, we don't really check anymore rt. You can't hold his hand till uni, the faster he become independent the better. If he makes mistakes he will learn. Of course we parents must be out of picture and move to support role only. Let go - let him soar to greater heights.

Kitcat, don't worry. Your DS is not the only one like that. My DS seldom tell us that he has test or the test scores. I often get updated on what is happening from this forum and then ask him for further information. He said sec is very different from primary sch. The teacher don't ask them to get parent's signature on test papers. He seems to be enjoying school and cca. So I guess things should be ok.I feel DS always has tests and I become not knowing when they test what, and only know what they had been tested when DS come back and tell me the test scores, and DS now become does not allow me to check his homework unless he has difficulty and wants my help...I feel I soon become out of the picture liao...

New Records Set by the Class of 2011
The Class of 2011 set a brand new record for the 2011 ‘A’ Level Examinations. Half of the cohort scored a distinction in all 4 H2 subjects, the highest since the first cohort who offered the revised A-Level curriculum in 2007. 622 students (50%) scored 4 distinctions in the content-based subjects, and 853 students (68%) scored 3 distinctions in the content-based subjects.
Another record set was the number of students with a distinction in all subjects offered, with 155 students (12%) achieving this phenomenal feat. In 2010, this number was 11%.
For Chemistry and Economics, the Class of 2011 also topped all previous cohorts, with 77% scoring a distinction in Chemistry and 71% scoring a distinction in Economics.
In addition, 28% achieved perfect University Admission Points of 90, which was higher than year before. The University Admission Score is computed based on a maximum score of 90 points, and takes into account General Paper or Knowledge and Inquiry, Project Work, 3 H2 and 1 H1 content subjects.
