My son is only on Gr 5 ABRSM, now going for Gr 7 this year. Hmm.. maybe thats y he was put on waiting list earlier. But I think also depend on his performance during his audition. As for my son, he has being performing in school, active in CCA, did a lot of public speaking, therefore he was well-prepared for audition.

Does anyone have any idea how many kids audition for the different art forms each year?

Does SOTA music students still need to take private music lesson outside SOTA school hours to achieve grade 8 or diploma level in their respective instruments ?

Does SOTA curriculum provides itโ€™s music students with practical coaching/examinations so that students can go beyond Grade 8 ABRSM/Trinity and achieve diploma level for their respective instruments ?
My concern is since their curriculum is so packed, will they have time for private music lessons outside SOTA school hours ?

You do not need and cannot take private lessons for the same instruments outside SOTA. Instrumental tutors are provided and paid for by the school (pairing done by the school) except extra lessons taken during school holidays. All teachers there are qualified to teach students beyond G8 and Dip level, mostly SSO/YST tutors. Curriculum is packed because they factor in the music lessons both practical and theory and practice period (if AGP aka Artistically Gifted Programme).

All for the price of one if student is seriously into their arts programme.

Hi ballet charm, sorry I missed your post.

I do not know much about the dance part as my dds are not in that faculty. but I think the other parts of the TA programme is quite the same. Have fun, enjoy and give your all.

                  Hi Dasalo
Thank you for the valuable information.
So glad to know SOTA students don't have to take private music lessons . It's so priviledge to have instrument lessons with highly qualified instrument teachers as part of the curriculum and all these factored into the monthly school fees ๐Ÿ˜„ These saves both students and parents time since all lesson conducted at school premises under one roof. Is this available to all SOTA music students or available to only those in the Artistically Gifted Programme (which I think accounts for 5% of the cohort) ?
Thank you very much as we are excited about SOTA's program and want to know more for secondary school selection end of this 2012.

Itโ€™s for all music students. Only AGP has practise session in curriculum time. ie another 11/2 hrs in their time table. Btw, I donโ€™t know if they have since changed their regulations or done with their "teething", best to check on the extra practise session part.

                        Hi,

Dose SOTA publish overall IB diploma results of its students? How many managed to get into local universities?
