Over the years of working (for almost 20 years), I have come across foreign colleagues, and friends. And I can tell you one thing. They are not necessary good or better than us.Unless the kids can attain professional degrees, become adaptable, show passion and be able to constantly evolve in their field, they will have a regular future in Singapore. Many will become teachers, salesman, food-stall operators, admin workers, taxi drivers, waiters, ushers and security guards.
The competition from foreigners is great. In fact great is an understatement. The foreigners are willing to work harder for less money, and that marginalizes Singaporeans, particularly those that aspire the 5C's.
Just my opinion, it may not be a fact.
Work harder for lesser money, only applicable to the unskilled or low-skilled workers. For example, I am traveling alot to China nowadays and including finding staff for our offices in China. For the professionals, the salaries are almost as much as Singaporeans. They will not accept low pay. 5-day week is a must (it's illegal to work on Sat without OT pay). If you ask them to re-locate and pay them low pay? No way. Those who can come and work in Singapore at low pay, are not the really good ones I can say. Don't look at the qualifications only, look at the software of the people (attitude, ethics etc), and you can see the difference. -

I agree based on my own 20+ years of working.

This is beg to differ. I have come across many who are not hardworking and have little pride in their work. Poor attitude leaves much to be desired.Work harder for lesser money, only applicable to the unskilled or low-skilled workers.

I would consider these as low-skilled who can't really take away our jobs. In this aspects, our workforce has its advantage. Many of the really good ones don't have to come to Singapore.marvic:

I am asking myself this question also. My gg is always buzy studying, going for tuitions and cca. She has become defiant and rude sometimes especially this year she is preparing for PSLE. This is only beginning and is already so stressful. Seeing her like that. I worry for my 4 yrs old going thru the same education system here. Already her teachers are complaining abt her behaviour. life here is not healthy for my family and I am so tired. Now thinking whether to forget about PSLE and migrant to Australia or finish PSLE and migrant next year.

Exam anxiety. Should be able to manage. Going away cannot solve problem. Who knows living in Australia would bring about another set of anxiety for kids. -

Yes, but only if I were a foreigner....here in SG?
What are your views? -

If I were you, I will migrant and forget about the PSLE. I find that our education system is too stressful and rigid. Ask yourself what do you want your child to achieve, a degree? There are definitely more than one way to achieve it. If I have a choice like you, I will migrant asap.
