Hi Club 2006 moms and dads,

Do you ever wonder or worry if your child can carry the heavy school bags when they go to P1 next year?

I weighed DS1's schoolbag the other day. It was a darn 6kg! so i told him, I really wonder if your brother can carry all that weight next year? DS2 is short - 113cm ( and i hope he grows taller by year end).... I can't help but feel worried for the weight of the schoolbag he gotta carry next year.

DS1 have been seeing and going through spine adjustments with a chiropractor since last November. His spine is tilted slightly to the left....

Are you all worried? Share your thoughts.
my DD1 (118) who is in P1 carrys her own bag all the time. I will only help if we went out and she is asleep in the car.

6kg is quite alot. DD1's bag feels like 3kg at most. it is an ergo bag so she said she doesn't feel the weight. In fact she carries like 6 story books to school which I had to put a stop to.

It helps that her sch has lockers so she only needs to bring specific items. Daily bag-keeping is done so that she doesn't need to bring more than she should.

DD2 is way shorter than DD1 but she has tried her sister's bag and she said cant feel anything.

We also pack the bag every night, without fail. Seems like every book is needed. DS1 bag is abit ergo ( from Deuter)…and everytime, I’ll ask, why can’t you keep this book in your locker? He replied : teacher says cannot… Sigh.

heavy back really will affect the spine de.
my ds1 quite lucky, P1-P3, they allowed to keep books in school. then we got him a really small bag. although his A4 papers will have dog ears, we make do with it because that bag is really light.
this year, they could not keep the books in sch, so i let him carry that small bag and a hand carrier bag where he put most of his textbooks. so when i walk him to/from sch, i'll carry that hand carrier bag while he carries his backpack.
we intend to buy that same brand small bag for ds2...he is 118cm tall and 22kg, so no problem with handling that bag since my ds1 is 131cm tall and 23kg (!!!) can manage that bag.

there are work books and worksheets. so when they need to bring worksheets home, they will keep the workbook at school. Textbooks as usual is daily...

maybe I should start checking out the older girls bags in the sch 😉
