      VooVoo:
Pardon my ignorance, is there any difference between HA and non-HA classes? i.e. the usefulness of streaming at P2 to P3 classes...

I am interested to know also.

My DD has asked me, if her marks fall around 90 plus for 3 subjects, will she has the chance to go to HA class from P2 to P3.

I told her to try her best, not to worry. There is only so much a human soul can take in pressure.

The top 38-40% of each cohort gets into HA classess…just a general question, how difficult is it to do so? Is the competition really tough? Just being kpo here…

            Hi hamster, VooVoo

Based on what DS went thru, it does seem that the HA classes get to do some 'extra' activities that the MA ones didn't do. Lessons-wise they did the same syllabus as MA but at a slightly faster pace - DS1 had a lot of free-time especially during English on Fridays.

As for how they class the kids, DS1 was the only one from his P2 class to get into his P3 class. So not really sure what they looked to put them in the class. I know his P3 class had quite a few 'athletes' but DS1 is definitely NOT one of them.

I would say high 90s should be very 'safe' to get into HA. Depends on the year's cohort too.

              Hi VooVoo

The competition is really tough, my DD class at
least 5 to 8 of them score 38 to full marks for the 3 subjects. Most of the test full mark is 40.

She was quite upset her recent tests did not scored full mark. She scored 38 marks for her tests. She feel she did not done well enough for her tests. I praise her for the hard works she has done. She indeed did very well for all the tests. I can still feel her disappointment after all the makan treat.

She stress I also stress plus :slapshead:

Oh wow! If we take an average, just the top 10 of each class gets to go to HA classes!

Do these kids score close to full marks for "show and tell" too?

                    Yes, for my DD class.

The pressure really comes from their peers! 😓

I have looked at the recent Math and Chinese test papers. They were pretty easy, not surprising to me if many students had full or almost full marks.

Still, maybe my child's class not so \"competitive\". Only one child had full marks from the tests so far...

Also, if one gets 1 or 2 marks less than full marks (especially if due to carelessness), no need to be stressed. Too stressed sometimes can affect performance.

Take a look at this class blog: http://nyps3b2012.blogspot.com/2012/03/math-topical-test.html

The teacher expects more full marks...so you say stress or not.

But I must admit, the paper was indeed easy.
So much so that DD's math teacher worried that in compensation, SA1 will be hard!
