Though I am a non-alumni (primary school) villager, I would still support the cause of alumni if the same privilege is accorded to alumni of secondary schools, junior colleges, and maybe even tertiary institutions.

By virtue of the argument above, my children should be entitled the same treatment as the alumni in primary schools when they embarked on their next level of education, shouldn't they?

See? Just because u are not alumni of a school u wanted, u are asking qns on unfairness relating to distance to a pri school near ur hse. Everyone here has his/her own agenda.

That is because schools are not privately owned. Fair enough that some priority and privileges is to be given to those who put in relatively more effort than their neighbour but when these priority and privileges start to become unreasonable and is done at the expense of another possibly deserving citizen family , it then becomes everybody's business (whether it is about their own agenda or not) because these schools are not privately owned.

Well said . Lots of self centre individuals . If you really die die must let your children enter that particular school , do something , do not complaint this , complain that .... Not alumni members , want to strap alumni , never do PV , want to scrap off PV. Some neighbourhood had more 3 primary school around example Bedok ... Feng Shan , red swastika , Yu neng within 1 km ... All want register red swastika ... Cannot enter blame alumni .... Blame PV but never do much , cross hand cross leg do nothing but say not fair this not fair that .... Yes it sound wow to me when parents rent out their own flat to rent a flat near famous school .... Ah yo to me it is great extent but the parents taking extra mile !
Yes all parents pay tax but so ..... ?? Change half of the school name to nanyang la ... Then all can famous school la is it !!!!
When someone propose to scrape GEP some parents not happy say it is out of jealousy ... Parents in KS really cynical ...

Note that I did not mention there are 100 families or 100 children planning to enrol. The demand across the whole of singapore is anybody's guess. I also mention the only priority is based on distance. No phase 1, 2A, and 2B.
You already say for simplicity of illustration mah.. no need too hardcore on the exact numbers......

Now church and clan falls under 2B, behind 2A.

            Any views? :scratchhead:

            Fair!

Fair because you think alumni is more important than founders?

šŸ˜„[/quote]Important? I wouldn't use that to describe the relationship.

Alumni are product of the schools....like the children.
Founders (association etc) played/plays a important role in the school but members are only related through affiliation....somewhat like cousins.

Children vs cousins...well, of course others can choose to see it in other ways.

What will happen to the demographics of students in the school?
if you're talking about landed properties.. these pple are already rich to began with.

If you're talking about HDB.. those willing to pay a premium are not necessarily very rich..

              On the other hand..

consider alumni priority. Who are likely the ones who will send their kids to popular school far away? the rich who own cars and less likely the not well-to-do who have to put up with the inconveniences of public transport right?

so.. throw the question back to you.. \"What will happen to the demographics of students in the school?\"

Back to your point on the richer families moving closer.. Those that can well afford it.... may do so.. hence..

It is fair to say that both distance and alumni priority can have undesirable impact on the demographics.. comparing the impact from rich property owners and rich alumni.. barring other factors.. which is the lesser evil?

I choose rich property owners.. because then there may be less traffic congestion.... benefit to the society and general community..

When formulating policies.. we shd consider the communities.. isn't it?

If it's because their school has closed and he has lost his alma mater... I am sorry that his contributions has come to naught.
for the alumni who couldn't get in bcoz the policy changed and alumni has reduced priority.. it is \"sorry that his contributions has come to naught\"..

                    A) By distance -> Bad impact on demographics.. more rich students..

                    B) By alumni -> Bad impact on demographics.. more rich students..

I choose A as the lesser evil.. as there is tangible benefits to community ..

                        Yes, naught as well.

It's like if a girl has a boyfriend for 6 years now. They have gone thru thick and thin together and they shared love, hopes of marriage + children. However, one fine day boyfriend decides marriage and children is not what he wants. He says the girl still holds a special place in his heart and does not mind continue the relationship but adds he would also like to get to know more \"friends\" (particularly within 2km from his work/home ;))

Well, all has come to naught for the girl.she can decide to maintain the relationship under the new terms or move on in hopes of meeting another guy that may share her hopes and dreams. Even if she finds another guy, she will always be wary of putting too much commitment into the new relationship.
