Travel: Australia - Perth

Looks like it is not too difficult to travel without driving. I intend to stay in Goodearth Hotel and via budget airline. How is Goodearth Hotel? is it very run down?
We stayed in 2008 . No complains and it met our budget. It is self-contained, so you can do some simple cooking.
As described by Just888, free shuttle city bus is around the corner. We also chose it because it is near to the car rental company. -
Hi
We are going to visit Perth this May with 2 kids in tow and we do not wish to do a car rental as I had heard horror stories abt renters being charged or ripped off upon returning the car.
As ours is a free and easy trip, is it worthwhile to buy day tours from the hotel?
Is it easy to travel with 2 young kids via their public transport? Need some advice hereโฆ Tks. -
Just sharing my personal thots
Actually most of my friends self-drive in perth and they have no problem with car rental.
With a car itโs easier to travel to more areas and more relaxed. In Perth city itself and Fremantle, their buses are free but can be quite crowded. Day trips are expensive in aussie. Just a nearby day trip to Swan Valley will set you and yr family about $250 - $300 AUD.
We did a combo of self drive and without car (our last 3 days) in perth last year. We could really feel the difference in terms of convenience. And their airport shuttle buses are quite hit and miss type. They almost missed our time to the airport despite me emailing them reminders before my departure and also calling them one day before departure.
I will most probably be travelling to perth again during the May/June school holidays but this time I will opt for self drive all the way. -

As we are only planning to visit Perth for 5 days, we will only visit the wildlife park, swan valley, Fremantle and some Perth city shopping, not forgetting the harbourtown..ha
Which car rental co. did u use previously? I had initially wanted to rent a car but besides the ripped off cases..the rental fee cum insurance etc is quite high also - ranging from AUD $500(collect from Perth city) to 800(from airport).
Day tour to the places I want to visit for a family is about AUD $580.
So we more or less decided to go with day tours as this is our first time there and save my hubby some hassles..
Guess it should be more worthwhile to rent a car if we are exploring more areas.
Btw, have you tried their hop on hop off buses and trams? We are including this in our plan but not too sure if it's too ley Cheh with kids. -

We will be staying at Goodearth hotel too! But we will be travelling at end May. Booked the 1 bedroom apartment. Heard it's just 5-10min walk to barrack jetty so I will buy the triple tour package from city sightseeing which includes the return captain cook cruise tour. This will take us to Fremantle.
As for Visa, I had shortlisted either JA travel or newway travel to do it for us. $10 per person.
How many days will u be spending in Perth? -
Hi Ladies, am travelling to perth in April. Am going to rent a car from Hertz. The rental is pretty reasonable with unlimited mileage.
Regarding visas, can do it at Misa travel as well. They charged $10 per head -
hi Nissin
how much is the captain cook cruise tour per pax? -

I used sunset car rental last year. The experience was ok. It was recommended by a few of my friends. They threw in free booster and car seats for us.

This round most probabl we will want to explore margaret river, busselton, augusta and dunsborough. So will self drive all the way.
Swan Valley has a lot of small interesting farms/vineyards for you to explore. If you are going to Caversham Wildlife Park, i think perhaps you can give Perth Zoo a miss...just my personal thots.
When i was there in May last year, there were watermelons growing at some farms, so it was quite interesting for my kids to see that.
We were quite hesitant to drive in Perth as we didn't have any experience driving overseas before. But it turned out well as the drivers and road conditions are much much better than SG. It was our first trip to perth too.
We didn't try the hop on and off trams. In perth city and fremantle, we took the free buses as they stop at major attractions. Will you be visiting Kings Park? There's a free bus that goes there, off-hand i can't rem. It has a lot of interesting zones for kids. Can consider.
i didn't do much shopping in perth city cos it's very similar to sg but quite expensive. -
Hi concern mum,
The triple tour I am interested in are the 3transport in 1 package. It costs AUD 200 for whole family. Package includes:
1. 2-day pass for hop on hop off city sightseeing bus which will travel to 13 stops I think. From stops nearby goodearth hotel, kings park, harbourtown, Murray street, barrack jetty etc.
You can stay on the bus for 2 hrs sightseeing or just hop on hop off the stops that you want to explore. But got to print out their timetable for the bus timingsโฆ
2. Captain cook cruise to Fremantle. Itโs a return ticket. But got to go to the barrack jetty on your own to board the cruise.
3. Fremantle tram hop on hop off.
