          Hi hi,

Congrats to parents whose kids got in! My kid didn’t make it - only 1 out of 21 in her class got in. The one who got in was a ‘naughty and playful’ boy and according to my kid, nobody clapped for him becos everybody was in shock and believed that there must be a mistake. The top girl in class couldn’t believe it either.

I thought that was really funny, as if the kids know who should qualify for GEP instead.

For the parent who’s interested to know about Northland, a teacher from there told me that every year, they have about 9 to 10 students going for GEP.

            Hi

So sorry did not have time to browse through the tread.
The only thing we do is to starting cultivate reading at the earliest age.
At times, I also ask them to do some past year questions to see whether they have any doubts in their study.
But most of the time, they manage the school work themselves.

To me, reading is the best gift that we as parent can give to our children.
Btw, youngest DD did not make it to GEP.
We encouraged him to try harder next time, such as maths olympiad and JSA (junior sport academy).
            Cheers
Can you enlighten me what is JSA?

My girl was very sure she wants to stay put at her current sch yesterday. Today, she changed her mind. Think she is not sure and neither are we. Don't think a decision can be made by next Wed (hmmm, why do we have to decide so soon anyway?).

Initially she took the screening test just to see how far she could go, with no intention to switch school even if she gets selected. But now that she got chosen, she is not so sure already.

My concern is that if she joins GEP and gets bogged down by the projects/activities, she may not have time to prepare for PSLE and as a result. not get into a good Sec school. I am all for the critical skills/knowledge she will acquire at GEP but realistically and pragmatically, getting good enough results in PSLE to get into her dream sch (ya, she has already decided on her ideal Sec sch) is very impt as well.

I do not know what GEP syllabus is like and wonder if she can cope. Although she topped the std in P1 and P2, her results this yr is not fantastic (her grades slipped). She is not the extremely hardworking type.

Does anyone know abt MGS' in-hse GEP prog ? How does it compare to the 'centrally managed GEP' by MOE ?

We are so afraid of making the 'wrong' decision ... 😢

A big Thank You to vlim and bing_he for the information and advice. It really makes a big difference for the kids and parents to make a decision.

Personally, we've built up a strong tolerance for teacher criticism and poor marks when I think all he needs is time. Ultimately can do it one lah, although it may take longer than the instant method of \"memorizing phrases.\"

Feeling quite reassured now that I can go back to my bochap ways, .

Don't worry, you're not the only one. My dd is adamant about not going and she cried when thinking about leaving her friends. 😞

I saw this qn in the moe’s GEP website.

How are pupils posted to the schools in the GEP?

In the primary GEP, if the pupil is from a school that offers the programme, then the pupil could choose to remain in the school. A pupil would be posted to a school of his/her choice as long as there is a vacancy. If there are more applicants than vacancies, other criteria would apply. A pupil applying for a SAP school would be given preference if he/she comes from a SAP school. Likewise for a pupil applying for a single-sex school if he/she comes from a single-sex school. All else being equal, distance of school from home is an important factor.

Hi Vlim, my child got back a list of book puchase for next year. It is the mainstream text books. Do GEP students still buy mainstream text books or having a seperate list of text books? Do you still buy top primary school exam papers for your GEP kids to do and what level do you buy?

                        TIA for your advice
