RE: Secondary School Third Languages
My dd just managed a borderline pass for her Indonesian. She has made no attempt at all to learn the language. That said, she wants to continue on and I encourage her because whatever little that she learnt can only be beneficial.
I guess unless my dd is taking a very important exam that year, I would allow her to continue to absorb whatever little that she can in the class.
I encouraged dd to drop her original language ie Japanese and opted for Indonesian. She was not happy at all initially as she's really into manga and all things Japanese. With Indonesian, she could join the RSP and enjoy lots of outings throughout the year - Pulau Ubin with ACS, RI and St ....boys ( ), Nasi Padang gathering, Geylang visit during Ramaddan etc. My daughter's verdict : Mum, I'm so glad I joined the RSP ! So many trips ....... cool. :imcool: -

I believe MOE chooses the nearest MOELC to the school. For RGS, theyi would also like to know how MOE decides which center to send you to for 3rd language? Or does it depend on the language you choose (eg. French only at Bishan, German only at Newton)?
Thanks!
were offered the one at Newton. You can request for a change depending on the schedule. -

Hi,
Hi looking to appeal for a change in language as well. Appreciate if you can share the process. Tqwatmekiasu:
Yay ! Dd appealed successfully and managed to change her language fm Japanese to Indonesian and at the campus and time of her choice. :rahrah:
Hope other have similar good news.
Sorry, just logged in after a long time away.
You have to register for the offered language to secure a place that your child has been accepted into. On the same day after registration, head down to the office and ask for the forms for a transfer and change of language. You should be able to check on your application in a week or so, at the MOELC site.
Good luck. -

Meaningful education? I don't think it will happen on Singapore Island.
1) If teachers do not poach their own students (sell services as private tutor after school hours at $85/hour 2x a week),
I am surprised. I hv asked dd's teachers before (2) and both had said they don't give tuition and would not recommend any tutor. They said you should seek one yourself.
2) Threaten students by telling them will deduct 10 marks from exam for not doing annotation,
I do the same to my dd and it is not effective. However, when the teacher does the same, she sits up and take notice. If that's the only way for her to learn the basics, I have no problem with it.
3) Or approach kids after school to ask whether they have tuition and for what subjects.
I would assume that the teachers are just curious. Maybe they are gauging the effectiveness of their lessons.
..I would be very grateful.
What biz is it for school teachers to ask students whether they have tuition  ...just do the job they are paid for...ie TEACH.
I guess the teachers think the same - Parents, do the job that you are supposed to do ! Teach your child respect ! -

Yes, TJC is also a great JC.
I see, will go down to TJC open house tomorrow and see how's the school. Probably will end up there if I can't go VJ.
You will get into TJC for sure.[/quote]
Yes, I've also heard good things abt this JC
Skye, all the best - whether it is VJC or TJC, they are both well-spoken of by educators. -
RE: Raffles Girls' School (Secondary) [*IP]
Although my yr 1 dd missed all the fun the past few days, I would like to thank all the seniors, teachers and Principal for working so hard to make the Orientation a success.
Dd was battling a high fever hovering around 40deg the past few days but is better now and looking forward to school on Monday.
