Most important teach the kids Moral Value at home.
Nowadays MOE passes application for Foreign Talents from all sort of countries, passes application for teachers whom the MOE interviewers can’t even differentiate between male and female. This is dangerous particularly when teaching sex education. Generally ah-quahs don’t associate with girls, tom-boys don’t associate with boys. -

before that, the immediate task now shd be to disallow teachers from moonlighting..
From what I'm aware, MOE does not restrict teachers from moonlighting outside.. they only \"discourage\"..
I feel this is very very bad for the system..
Where got employers allow your staff to do part-time one..
Esp teaching.. which clearly have conflict of interest concerns.. -

Oh dear, this is really a punch in the face for me. I had to withdraw my kids from their activities because of lack of time. No fault on their part but mine. I don't have the time nor patience for their music. Imagine one hour for each instrument for each child, that would be 4 hours (of my time) daily to sit there and watch them practise. Time would be very tight for me. (We have no helper.)

2) outsource non-teaching stuff like song & dance, CCA to non-teaching staff
3) increase pay of teachers
4) reduce unnecessary meetings
Basically something has to be done to address problems of teachers and high turn over rate. Teachers are humans and they have own families too. Some teachers become adjunct because they don't have to attend meetings or conduct CCA. -

Hmm, they were only 4 and 6 years old then. Maybe yours can, mine still couldn't at that age. They did not really need me to teach (especially the older one), just that my presence comforted them. Even now.
But now that they are older, yes, I think they are more mature and able to handle practising the instruments on their own. In fact, my son has been requesting to have violin lessons when we return to Sg. That's why I am keeping a lookout for violin teachers. -

What about banning initiaitves like Dad's for Life too - which seeks to get the fathers closely involve in all aspects of their children's upbringing. After all, we know that children with strong parental support will do better academically which is the same outcome as sending them for enrichment classes.
What about allowing this Dad's for Life initiative, but banning dads from enriching their children academically so as to even out the odds with the have-nots?
What I'm highlighting here is, please aim your turrets carefully at the source of the 'issue'. How many parents here who are shooting down enrichment centers are busy- and more than capable of - enriching their children themselves. -

Hi Chen, some questions i cd offer for ur thinking: what's your desired outcome from the action u take? Teacher to become aware of her incompetency, then do something abt improving her competency? School become aware of problem? Do u believe teacher can change in the short term? What can be changed & what cannot? What's really a system issue or individual issue here? Of its lack of clear marking rubrics & counter-checking of marking, then it's system issue.
These are lovely questions... helps me focus. Draws down the emotional response a lot. -
