Han Language Centre - Discussion

Hi!

Anyone had an experience with Han 汉 Language Centre? They have several branches and I am considering enrolling my DD (S1) at the one at Toa Payoh. TIA!

Is this the same Han Language as the one at Harbourfront? Has any parents here sent their children to the centre at Harbourfront? Any comments?

Hi, is there any reason why you withdrew from Tein Hsia? From what I understand and heard from friends, it is very difficult to get a place at Tein Hsia?

I have not visited this thread for quite sometime. Sorry did not reply to your queries. For teachers quality, most of the teachers are china teachers , and they speak very good mandarin. For the material quality, I do not have any other Chinese enrichment to compare , but the materials follow closely with school syllabus. The service of the staff there are very good too but I am not sure of other centers. They also allow your child to sit in to another class if you miss your regular class. The fees are reasonable too. For your info, both my children are still with them. My dd surprisely still score very well in her school exams. But her Han teacher ever told me that my dd standard in her class was only average and she was surprised that she can scored very well in her school exams. I think I will still continue to put my children in Han unless their grades drop.

I am thinking of enrolling my p5 ds in Hans at the Khatib Branch. His CA1 paper was super bad. According to his teacher, his standard is that of a P3 thus he is always doing a \"catching up\" game. Was reading all your comments and can't help noticing that the HLC teachers don't seem to encourage/praise the students even after doing well (see quote above) but instead promote their other classes to further improve the language of their existing students. So I am a little hesitant now cuz I believe teachers are suppose to have passion and nurture the kids.

I just registered DS at this centre but mine is the easiest level - WWT. I looked at the Enrichment class materials (ting, shuo, tu, xie are included in this class). They seem quite challenging. I am trying out for 5 weeks, will feedback as he goes along with the class

I’m thinking of enrolling my P1 boy in Teck Whye branch as this is the most nearby.


His chinese teacher said his hanyupinyin is bad and he can’t recognise many chinese words. I admit he is more keen in Math than languages so in a fix now on how to motivate him.

Went to Berries Woodlands for trial and was surprised that they teach higher chinese and they recommended that he starts from K2 standard. But I saw his worksheets and found that the words are really difficult for a P1 kid.

Any advice on what is higher chinese? The Han Language person said it does not matter at lower primary and that their syllabus follows MOE. He also said should stick to P1 as boys usually take longer to click so shoudl persevere.

I am thinking of enrolling my P4 son in Kovan HLC branch. He is rather weak in the subject. May I know what is the success rate from a Band 3 or worse to Band 2? It’s so closed to SA2 already. So worrying…
