well…some deaths can be prevented, but some really can’t…

maybe if all of us wrote to defense ministry to shorten NS or something…

Taiwan already cut ns to 1 yr,

and it’s not like we’re surrounded by unfriendlies

We have the 4th highest defense budget per capita in the world

wonder what goes into all that money, eh?

We are worried - but my DS is even more worried, so much so that we have to try and console him - now army life is better than before, got catered food, got simmons mattress to sleep on, not as bad as it used to be. 😆

It's never good to be complacent.

There wasn't much action around pearl harbor either.. that is, before the sneak attack.

A lot of ppl cannot relate to WWII (including me)...
              Only in movies...
              That's why NS means differently...
              :celebrate:

                Worried ofcourse. I have 2.

Why don’t Mindef reduce the period 2 yrs to 1.5 and eventually to 1 yr only? Taiwan recently reduced to 6 months from 1 year. When I talk to the recent NS guys, I found the whole 2 yrs can be conveniently repacked to 1 yr.

In the modern world, except some rogue countries, every country will think umpteen times before going to war. Then why Sg need to worry so much? In Asia, our country leaders are much responsible than those in middle east.

yeah lor, the minute they step out of camp for a weekend out, ah gong, ah ma and aunty will be at gate to carry their barang barang.

and if you want french food, got french food (even in hawker centre), spanish, japanese, italian, mexican food to make up for the whole week of \"yucky\" food they have in camp.

sat/sun can go for full body massage, spa treatment etc.

having gone thru NS, I maintain that it's good for our boys, especially this present gen. No, I'm not some high ranking officer but a lowly soldier. 😉

Anyway, it's not just NS. Just a few days ago, a professional soccer player, think 23 yo, collapsed during a English FA Cup match...no pulse....

                        And.. trolley bags..?

it's unlike last time we have to carry ali baba bags..

Nowadays.. soldiers are not like soldiers..

air-con buses, trolley bags.. over pampered.. and some get their maids to carry field pack somemore.. what a disgrace..

Welfare is good.. but should not be to the extend of over-pampering.. food, medical attention etc.. should be well looked after.. but air-con buses, trolley bags etc.. is ridiculous.. I feel..

They're training a soldier.. not mediacrop artists hold rifle for show..
