and if you want french food, got french food (even in hawker centre), spanish, japanese, italian, mexican food to make up for the whole week of \"yucky\" food they have in camp.

      yucky..?

Normally during ICT camp, saw quite a number of NSmen actually wanted to eat the meal in camp. The taste is acceptable and they saved $$$$ then to eat outside.. youngsters nowadays don't appreciate.. maybe money come by too easy for them.

I know of one guy who didn't appreciate food until he joined the army. Cos they use up so much energy (he's a big eater), the food given to him in the army wasn't enough that he waited by the dustbin to finish up the food from whoever could not finish.
aiyoh, i know the food standard in camp has improved greatly over the last few years. newspapers also got reports.

but still cant be comapred to the many types of food available outside lah.

well.....some deaths can be prevented, but some really can't....

maybe if all of us wrote to defense ministry to shorten NS or something.....

Taiwan already cut ns to 1 yr,

and it's not like we're surrounded by unfriendlies

We have the 4th highest defense budget per capita in the world

wonder what goes into all that money, eh?
But would shortening NS really help? Already they're rushing through some of the training like throwing live grenades in the first month or something. Wouldn't it be better to make sure they're properly trained rather than hastily trained? Less accidents if they're properly trained.

              šŸ˜‰
NS was a humbling experience for many of my friends...most came from well to do families. Coz everyone will start off as recruits...and as recruits, we get scolded by everyone/anyone for anything...those days no such thing as human rights (now even got animal rights etc, ya?!)...even if u were scholars...also a recruit once...unless your are Lee Ah Gong sons or grandsons...yr recruit status is diff šŸ˜‰

during war time, instead of taking rifles charging at the enemies, our
NS men charge with ipads..and staring at them

imho, this is one of the reasons for the modern occurrence of people dropping off dead unexpectedly. The ill-preparedness. All ho jiak, ho koon, so when BMT and tougher course starts, the 'jump' may be too drastic for the body to adapt and MAINTAIN.

As the youngsters are now well fed and better built, their bodies can be trained quicker and be stronger faster - BUT the fact that they had not been very active for long period during sch days, maybe the body cannot maintain this level of activity for continuously 2 yrs of NS ?

Though all kids go through some NAPFA yearly, but many just train ( if even train ) for that one month period. Its a big difference for a young child to be normally inactive to be continuously kena tekan from 530am to 9pm almost daily for months.

Its like an engine, its like a tool, its like running shoes - you get the picture - they need the run-in to be prepared , to be ready.

Nowadays.. soldiers are not like soldiers..

air-con buses, trolley bags.. over pampered.. and some get their maids to carry field pack somemore.. what a disgrace..

Welfare is good.. but should not be to the extend of over-pampering.. food, medical attention etc.. should be well looked after.. but air-con buses, trolley bags etc.. is ridiculous.. I feel..

They're training a soldier.. not mediacrop artists hold rifle for show..
                        Agreed ! šŸ˜‰
