Maid to get weekly rest days
-
JUst to share something
when I heard it, I laughed 1st.. then wonder in this case, where's our protection as employers!!
My cousin just got a new helper, coz the previous one completed contract & she is not really good thus my cousin did not renew her contract..
This new one only came for a few weeks..
Yesterday, my cousin can go home early & thus decided to do a spot-check..
Guess what she saw??
Her maid was napping on her daughter's bed!! & she was so sound asleep that my cousin had to call her 3-4 times loudly, before she could wake up!!
& worst !! She was so sound asleep that she drool all over her daughter's pillow & it was very wet with her saliva!!
My cousin was so mad & sent her back to the agency straight away!!
so this maid actually took her OWN day off!! OR TIME- OFF!! So can we 'claim' back the time she wasted on her own rest when she supposed to be working?
& for her bad attitude towards work, yet by sending her back to agency, we employers have to 'pay' for their laziness!! what sort of justice is this ??
I agree that maids need a rest day.. but weekly rest day is really too much! while government is thinking for the maids, they never think for us employers!! where is the justice?? I think mandatory 1 day per month is more justifiable & manageable for most families..
& in the 1st place ,government should not interfere with such domestic arrangements coz every family has different requirements..whether maids is mature enough to go for off-days, I think we employers can tell & decide much more better..so it really depends on individual.. & government should not AGAIN decide for us!! -

:scared: luckily it is not something else that wet the pillor or bed or even towel. -
Sigh! Wish gov’t would step in with "no transfer" policy. It would help alot. This way maid will learn that they are here to work and they can continue to have their weekly off day.

I agree. Since the weekly off day policy is modeled after HK and Taiwan's. We should take a step forward and implement (i) no upfront loan payment by employer; (ii) \"no transfer\" policy; (iii) no levy; just like HK and Taiwan. -

As employers, we are still liable for 50% of the bond. In my opinion, it is more fair, that employers are not liable if the maid moonlight or do anything against the law, during their off day. A thought to ponder...http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/1187096/1/.html
Mr Tan also addressed one big concern of employers. He stressed that employers' S$5,000 security bond will not be forfeited if the maid violates her own work permit conditions - for instance, if she moonlights on her day off, or if she gets pregnant.
Even in cases where the maid runs away, only half of the bond will be forfeited if the employer has tried to locate the maid.
Mr Tan said that this does not happen very often. Last year, only 22 security bonds were forfeited because of missing maids.
\"This is not large, considering that we have over 200,000 FDWs in Singapore,\" he said.
The MOM is also reviewing employers' obligations for medical costs and the cost of sending maids home due to exceptional circumstances that employers have little or no control over. -
if the sun rises from the west tomorrow morning, I think we will get the 'no transfer' policy for maid

I am thinking since the employers pay the maid levy and not the maids, it would be more equitable for the levy funds to be used for facilities, databases, services that benefit the EMPLOYERS.http://www.straitstimes.com/STForum/OnlineStory/STIStory_779366.html
What are these people thinking of? Using our taxpayers' $$$ to build CCs for maids!?!? Thereafter, someone will come out to say why not build CCs for the Thais, Mainland Chinese, Vietnamese and etc!!! :stupid: :stupid:
For example, use the funds derived from maid levies paid by employers to set up more day-care centres for the elderly that operate on Sundays, whom employers can turn to when the weekly off-day policy kicks in next year.
How about an online or hotline service funded by maid levies collected to help match employers (not limited to maid employers only) with daily rated nurses or caregivers that make house calls on Sundays. For families with infirm or elderly who needs constant care at home, consider a subsidy if this house call service is too expensive. Not all maids want compensation in lieu of off-day, so the token reduction in levy for those who need constant care may not be helpful for everyone.
In addition, with the levies collected, consider setting up a database for ex-Singapore maids so prospective employers can check the background to see if she completed her contract in Singapore or is someone with a \"high transfer frequency\". Also, include whether there is any police record filed for theft, child abuse or elder abuse.
Other suggestions? -
levy monies cannot suka suka anyhow use.
we need very good people to run this country. so must pay big $$$ to attract citizens to do it. foreign domestic maid employers are the sponsors. -
Sometime ago ( last year or early this year), there was an article in the ST about a proposal by the Indon authorities- that the Indon banks loan $ to the maids going overseas to work.
I wonder whether they’re still working on this idea. Or whether abandoned it. -
