sad to know that your husband happens to know only the negative side of 'gep'.... if he would have know friend whose kid do lbenefit from and like the program then he would not so against it.....

yeah, agree with you. :celebrate:
actually, i've pointed out to him that for every negative story i hear, i will be able to hear a positive one as well. But, i think he's just an overly protective daddy who doesn't want to see his little baby get \"hurt\" a teeny weeny bit. :stupid:
the only person who can override his opinion will be his little baby. However even if my kid does choose to go for GEP after the Wed briefing, i can foresee that if she becomes unhappy while in the GEP, he'll say :\" See, I told you so... now she's suffering.\"

Some schools were closed last Fri for marking day. So for them, I think the GE results should be out today.

Thanks to everyone who shared their views on GEP. It's heartwarming that though we do not know each other, we are able to share our views/fears/concerns and encourage one another.
I had another sleepless nite. strangely despite being groggy, it suddenly occured to me that I am the one having reservations abt GEP. I am risk-averse, love status quo ('if it ain't broke, don't fix it'). I am secretly hoping dd does not want to go GEP. I fear that she cannot cope, I fear that I cannot support her when she needs help. i hold the narrow view that once she is in GEP, she will lose most of her free time, she will hv to be mugging books all the time, she will not hv time to work on her motor skills (she is really really terrible at sports). I feel that she will not hv a happy carefree childhood (happy childhood - my grand plan when i decided to send her to a neighbourhood sch which doesn't push for academic success). I am beginning to c I am very selfish to hope to just get the end result I want.
This whole decision shd be abt what is best for dd, isn't it ?
this morning, i asked dd her thoughts abt joining GEP or stay in current school :
dd : '70% want to go GEP, 60% want to stay.'
me: ' the percentage supposed to add up to 100 leh.\"
dd: 'i don't know percentage mah. but that's how I feel. 70% go, 60% stay!\"
me: '.........'
I will keep an open mind, attend the briefing on Wed and discuss with dd again.
dd says the only sch she might want to go is RGPS. but she is currently in a mixed sch, so not sure of her chances of getting it. plus, RGPS is very far from our hse. -

At the end of the day, I feel that your child must have final say. If she really wants to go, she will be mentally prepared to face all the challenges that GEP has to offer her and she will be able to overcome any difficulties. That is more than half the battle won.

Herbie:
Hi Herbie,Hi Turquiose
Oh! My girl's class 5/13 went into GEP.
Cheers
That's just for your dd's class, right? I assume there are more from the other classes. So your dd will have company whichever school she chooses.

oh, one more thg to add. I asked dd how she felt abt leaving her sch and her friends. Her reply :
'Mummy, I am not the type who is emotionally attached to the school and will cry \"wah wah wah\" when i leave.'
I suspect she wants to try out GEP.
(she acted out the'wah wah wah' quite funny) -

my DH is also against my son going to GEP . The reason given is too far from our house and need to take school bus. But in my side my DS is firm he wanted to go . still will go for wed preview and get things sorted out then.yeah, agree with you. :celebrate:

MOE dont allocate schools based on the marks from previous years. it is just get in if you have slots and the other things they look is (near proximity to house , what school are you from SAP, boys, mixed etc, nothing else. give a try if still cannot then there is always tuition and turn back .Hi again
For those who are attending the GEP briefing this Wed, are you all arriving there early to view the GEP booths?
Any one of you whose child did not take Higher Chinese, but intend to enrol him /her in a GEP SAP school?
I am worried about mine. His current school is non-SAP, and his Chinese is quite terok, but I am eyeing on GEP SAP school, so abit worried his chances of getting in would be low. Also even if he gets in, dunno whether he can cope???
Any parents with similar experience to share? thks!!
