Actually I think the word 'absolute' priority in first paragraph is pretty misleading. At first I thought all singaporeans will get the places first, then followed PRs..regardless of any phase

      Still better than nothing..
It's a small absolute, within each phrase only. šŸ˜‚

I just thought of a trickle-down effect, and it's psychological. I think that with this change, in future schools will refrain from accepting PRs as PV as there is little chance of them being successful in registration. Either would PRs be tempted to apply. So that gives more opportunities for us locals to get selected. Same goes for GRL, clans etc.

would b good if MOE breakdown past years' statistics by SC vs PR phase by phase to:

        1. Show us the potential effectiveness of new policies n
        2. Give this year's applicants a feel of their chances in each phase.
        Yes! :goodpost:
To show that it is more than just a policy that sounds good but really is good for citizen since PR can still go in at the earlier phase without balloting.

Thank u. You have spoken my mind. How many PR actually compete with SC? I doubt that many. This is the style of our Govt - always take a very safe approach & all of u r so easy to please. There is no change in the fundamental of P1 registration the way I see it. Similarly when the tests in P1 & P2 r being scrapped, just the form of assessment is changed. Fundamentally still the same - still need to be graded & group classes to high ability in P3 - oooops off topic! Same thing with the one off payment of those few hundred dollars for eligible family.
Sorry I digress but this is not about making it a sure bet for us citizens (after all we still need to compete (ballot) within ourselves). This is about differentiating between citizens and PRs.

I was waiting patiently for the first post to throw stone. Didn't have to wait long. Some people are sure hard to please.

Based on my experience last year during balloting at 2b, it would have made a huge difference to the parents who didn't get in and the PRs who did...so well done MOE!

Haha, I was thinking the other way! PR shld target this Phase 2B more since it is the only way that they can get in ahead of citizen. Just don't target those that have balloting in Phase 2B.

Of course they will have no control if school, GRL etc do not accept them. But if they are accepted, then this is actually the way that they can get in ahead of citizen!

it is a mistaken belief that PR's kids are citizens. They are NOT if both parents are non-citizens even if they are born in Singapore

children born outside singapore of singapore citizens do not become citizens automatically too.
True also. Though there are many families with one parent PR and one citizen - and children can apply for citizenship pretty easily as long as the citizen parent has been citizen for long enough?

Possibly another way of looking at it. But I would say now many P2B options are out for PRs, especially those mission/clan type schools since it's almost a formality that there would be balloting in P2B.

C'mon, for today at least, let's applaud MOE for this initiative.

we are not just talking about pr from china, we also have many malaysians and indonesians who are pr too. doubt many of them would convert to citizenship just becasue of school.

gonna keep an eye on this year p1 registration. good to have a breakdown if possible from moe.

                        Daddy 😧

                        Good news for citizens...

                        Bad news for PRs...
Dunno how it will play out in the various phases though...
                        :celebrate:

some PRs will just quit singapore, it will be singapore's loss in the long term, esp those we need the most, in exchange for some Pri One places for citizens

                        :siam: :siam: šŸ¦† šŸ¦†

Really meh ? spore only atract people because of Pri registration ? They are here to make a living in this almost developed country. If there are no benefits to be gained here, you think they will come ? And pri registration is definitely a small thing. To be able to make moeny in a stabilised economy is more impt.
