S'poreans to get priority for P1 places during balloting
-

Yes.. but practically, the one at ubin most likely wouldn't get a chance at all.. bcoz majority of the places is likely taken by SC anyway.
Singapore Citizens have priority over PRs in situations of oversubscription. So the school will take in citizens first before considering PRs. So a citizen staying >2km will have priority over a PR staying <1km. Heck, even a citizen staying in Pulau Ubin will have priority over a PR staying next door to the school. :rotflmao: -

So that means as long as one is SC, child will get a place in any school even if staying in Pulau Ubin or JB ? Not very likely right?

if you can heck into MOE centralized computer database, you can obtain data readily at your finger tips, regarding "SC vs PR" past P1 enrolment info.

Sgporeans will still get a place in ubin unless vacacies overwhelming or need balloting at 2B. Even thereβs a balloting at 2b, sgporeans will still go in first then PRs.

Yes, we shld not encourage the long distance/duration traveling for Pri sch kids...I hope SC parents will put their children's health in the top most priority by not subjecting them to \"long-distance\" travel to their parents' ideal schools.
I have parents who stay in the North but enrol their children in school in the South! I really pity their children... please do not do this to our youngsters.
Thank you.
But then it's personal choice... -

Might not be a school of your choice but you'll still get a place in a school. Even if you're living in Pulau Ubin or JB.

This is good. Then the pressure to enter branded schools will be lessen and all flock to the neighbourhood schools since these schools will start to produce top PLSE students.the standard of neighbourhood schools will soon rise, with more PRs enrolled here, where parents very \"on\" type. This is healthy!
more China PR pupils like Qiu Biqing type will emerge.
She topped Qifa primary in West Coast:-

The word absolute does cover the gist of the whole change. If PRs have no chance in Phase 1 by virtue of a sibling, then there is absolutely zero chance for them to get into any of the top primary schools in Singapore as long as there are more SCs than PRs vying for places in any of the subsequent Phases. Even if the PRs live within 1km, they will not get to ballot since even SCs staying beyond 2km will have priority over all PRs. If that is not absolute, I'm not sure what would be considered as absolute
It's a small absolute, within each phrase only.FQW:
Actually I think the word 'absolute' priority in first paragraph is pretty misleading. At first I thought all singaporeans will get the places first, then followed PRs..regardless of any phase
Still better than nothing..
I just thought of a trickle-down effect, and it's psychological. I think that with this change, in future schools will refrain from accepting PRs as PV as there is little chance of them being successful in registration. Either would PRs be tempted to apply. So that gives more opportunities for us locals to get selected. Same goes for GRL, clans etc.
.
Actually, I think this change will actually intensify the balloting problem at top schools for this coming exercise, since it will drive more SCs to try for these schools thinking that they have a better chance of getting in now that PRs are \"out of the picture\".
At least there will be less finger pointing at PRs now when people lack the luck to get what they want. The debate will then shift to why alumni should be given priority in Phase 2A. :slapshead:
Yup, parents as far as 5km or even more will try to get into hot schools
The balloting in hot schools will surely be more intensify, i believe Singaporean parents are more kiasu. The children in hot schools will no longer or hv very little exposure to children from other countries, is this a good thing or not.

As you know we do hv PRs doing very well at PSLE, say PRs get pushed to \"not so popular / known\" school....we can start to see a shift in the \"top\" schools from the traditional ones to the relatively unknown ones
If that's the case, then in the future, maybe \"All schools in Singapore will be equally good\"?
I applaud this change. :rahrah:
