I have never wanted a maid because I believe having maids will turn my kid into spoilt brat. But alas, I didn't realize what I would be in! I am a ftwm who aspire to be a super mum ( but too bad, i am not the material for super mum) with only one child who just turn four.

Milk bottles - I buy disposable drop in liners. Expensive but save me from washing the milk bottles. I only need to wash the teats and screw caps. Save half the time and water.

Teach my child to aim properly so that I need not wash the toilet bowl umpteen times a week.

Teach my child to fold the clothes, socks and hankies. I have been teaching him since he's coming to 3 but he's only competent recently. Even so, save me some time Liao šŸ™‚

Teach my child to help me with hanging of laundr. He pegs all his undies, socks and papa's undies. He also hangs his own pants and tees but I would help him with some since I can work faster.

Set up a simple organizing system for my child's toys and books. Eg all his cooking toys in one box, all duplo in one box, use chicken essence boxes (the outer one which hold the 6 smaller box) as \"book stands\" so that it's easier for him to take out and put back those readers/ soft cover books.

\"cook in fashion\" - use the latest gadgets like happycall pan, themo pot, oven, 3 teir steamer etc.

Wear clothes which require no ironing.

Use disposable wipes (both dry and wet) for floor. Don't open the windows to big to keep dust out.

Install ceiling fan or use blade less fan. These are so much easier to clean than tower fan.

Keep old clothes as floor rugs or for mopping up mess eg a child's regurgitation. Use newspaper first if possible then use old rug.

If have intention to change window grill, switch to \"line grills\" instead of \"square grills\".

      Set up

Oh yes, switch to "straw less" water bottle as soon as your child is ok with drinking from cup.

OMG!! The madness.. I go crazy handling tis.. as they will b shouting for me at the same time.. n if either of them took a longer time to understand a certain topic.. jialat liao.. all hell loose... :frustrated: 😢 tatz y i feel i still nid to learn a lot from parents here hw to cope..
U mentioned abt chinese.. great! My ds is in P1 nw.. but feedback frm Chinese Tr was quite bad.. esp his hypy.. i nid a tutor... any recommendations? Prefer 1 to 1.. to suit my schedule.. TIA

            Hi, again!

Ha ha ok lah, I 'do' windows when a) it is CNY, b) when my mil visits (which is very seldom, thank God), and c) and when even I cannot tahan anymore. šŸ˜‰

I totally identify with the yelling!!! I live in an HDB flat, too, and when I start screaming, I KNOW my neighbours can hear me and are thinking that the crazy woman is abusing her kids again. SIGH.

If Chinese is hard for your kid in Pri 1, don't fret too much. There is still time to remedy the situation, but it does require hard work on the part of the parent. Sigh, yeah, lots of pushing, prodding and plain effort. I'm not sure a tutor at this stage would help, cos, to me, the child requires an amount of attention everyday on the subject. It could be as short as 20 min, but I think it is more effective than a tutor coming in once or twice a week. So the key is being consistent. I'm going to assume that you can handle basic simple Chinese, k? Erm, sorry, that means I don't have the contacts of good tutors...

This is what I garnered from the parents in this forum:

            1) Buy the si wu kuai du set of books and use them with your kid daily if possible. Apparently, Singapore Motherhood has very inexpensive sets. This will immediately build up his word recognition.

            2) Popular has a number of good hypy resources. Happy pictures, simple exercises and good-quality paper. Can consider using them for your kid, too.

            3) Can use assessment books to help your kid with review. I like the Chinese assessment book by CENGAGE Learning (Confucius Institute), also from Popular.

            4) Read to him in Chinese and make him read to you.

            5) Speak relentlessly to him in Mandarin.

I think language acquisition takes time. Don't worry too much about the hypy. Some kids (like my second son) find it hard to process and remember everything, but then it all clicks one day. It's just the waiting that sucks in between. Anyway, the end-goal is PSLE (or is it life?), so you have time lah! šŸ˜„

In case anyone is keen, I just bought a spin mop from the carrefour expo sale. It's the same as the one sold at homefix (based on saleslady info since I dint go to homefix!). It's 59.90. Bought it cos I got to try the demo set and it's lightweight n can spin easily (non step type). šŸ™‚

In addition, saw the laurastar irons on promo there. S3 model is going for 1599 - think $600 off. Those interested can take a look. Last day today though..

wow....super training for your child. He or she must be wondering is housework a plaything...hehe. Anyway, it is good to get it started. My son can do simple chores too. But I praised him after he gets it done. He can now clean the doors & the grilles as well as the gate. But of course, he uses Dettol wipes to sanitize everything. He does all that whenever his schedule allows him to. Oh by the way, he folds his own clothes, clean his study area, washes the dishes & make his own bed everyday. šŸ˜„ So that takes a whole load off me. I just concentrate on marketing, sweep, mop, laundry, clean the windows & ironing. šŸ˜„

Hi micollh, my husband says traditional irons are better. My husband knows best when it comes to electrical appliances. He works in electric appliances retail line & has a experience of close to 15 years. Those stand alone irons will give you muscle aches expecially around the shoulder, neck & arm area. After a day of housework, the least thing you will want to have is more muscle aches.

ha ha yeah, handling kids is TOUGH! Hang in there! One day, when your boy speaks unconsciously to you in Mandarin and the language is in his heart, you'll see the fruits of your labour. šŸ˜„
