This is really great news for us. My DS is trying for 2B at Nan Hwa. Had initially plan to shift to within 1 km to increase our chance of getting a place. Wonder how we can find out the % of PV who are SC and if I should still go ahead to look for a place within 1km?

The news came really timing for my 1st gal's P1 registration this year. It took the govt too long to put this into reality. I too wonder what's gonna happen to PRs who did / performing PV at the moment...

i think its harder to get PV these days. Schools are now probably told to accept only those within closeby and also to ensure that all PVs would get in.

          Not all schools.
going forward, likely super hot schools will tighten strict control over PVs application.

Particularly those schools where each year keep receiving hundreds of PVs application pouring in, but school only willing to take in very few PVs.

the most accurate way is to call up Nan Hua, ask them for past 3 yrs info regarding :-
            %tage of PV who are SC, balloting details by distance under < 1km, < 2km, > 2km.

school is the best person to advise you.

school will advise you willingly, esp. if they know you're genuine in seeking info, to help make decisions.

With due regards to MOE’s recent policy , what would my daughter’s chances of admission to P1 be ,being a PR , with the following details?

              CHIJ OLQP , 1-2 km , Phase 2 C .
I was wondering if it is really reasonable to implement it this year itself ?
Any enlightened parents , please help…

                  shipra and Laya,

both of you call up respective CHIJ school. Tell them you’re PR. Ask, "based on past years’ statistics wrt distance and with yesterday new changes announced, what is your chance like honestly, under 2C ?"

whatever answer you receive, best to start setting up alternative back up plans now.

I had tried that before. But school refused to divulge the breakdown between Singaporean, Foreigners and PR. They had emphasis that every child had his/ her fair share. I would understand why school wants to protect such information. No school would like to be highlighted to be in favour of PR / foreigners.

Hooray!!! It was a super great news for all of us who are true blue Singaporeans!!!

But would also like to know if there is a significant no. of PRs applying? And are they still qualified for registration under Phase 2B?
If remove all the phases/priveleges/priorities in P1 registration, but introduce P1 enrollment test for each primary school, and base on kid's test result to decide whether can enter concern primary school, it looks more fair...

SCGS already implemented, a few years:-

                        http://www.asiaone.com/News/Latest%2BNews/Singapore/Story/A1Story20120112-321483.html

schools with low enrolment pupils intake probably won't do it.
Thus not applicable across all schools in SG.

but super, hot popular schools interested can simply request SCGS for a copy of their P1 admission test papers, modify content to suit their own school standard (can set higher / lower than SCGS standard).

No need to re-invent, from scratch.
SCGS had set the precedent for other schools to follow her style, if any school is keen.

personally, i hate to see this happen.
children should enjoy their precious childhood, come and go very fast.
they have a whole lifetime ahead of them to study, minimum next 12 years.
