              Hi hi,
My K1 DD is in Learning Point studying Phonics there and will subsequently do the Pri 1 Headstart (writing prog) next year. They explained to me what my child will learn and am quite impressed with what they share with me. Of course, my friends recommended me to them because their children are studying there too. Why don't you give them a call to find out about the P1Headstart programme? Heard they are starting a class soon for P1Headstart prog.

              Cheers

                    Hi Mummies,

I want to enroll my 3yrs & 10month old son for a phonics enrichment course. I would like to go for montessori method. Does anyone have any views on MMI-Phoenix branch? I know they have 3 levels like pink, blue & green.. After a child finishes the 3 levels, will he also be able to form sentences? I hope my son wouldn't speak Singlish after the course..! What to look for while enrolling in a montessori phonics course... Kindly advice..... 🙂

Jinglee: I believe that we can't really stop our children from speaking Singlish. My sister's sec sch's kids speaks to her friends(they are in top IP sch!) and it freak us out. Later, my sis realised that so long as the kids are able to speak proper English when required and also they don't use Singlish at home, she is fine. :nailbite:

I have also instilled English and Singlish to my 3 children. Once in blue moon, my P1 will come back with a word or two! I will coreect her; NO Singlish allowed at home! :nunchuk:

There is no one best way to teach a child reading. Phonics is also not the only way to teach a child how to read unlike the misconception many parents make. All teaching methodologies have merits in their programme. It is just up to parents which programme they prefer for their children to use and learn from.

                        Your question above refers to?

                        1. You wanna send your child to an enrichment programme

                        or

                        2. You want to teach your child yourself?

I have shared both methods here in this forum.
You may check these links for more ideas.

                        http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=3962&hilit=letterland

For self teaching, the materials for both school of thoughts are equally pricey. Letterland has interesting and colorful resources plus catchy songs and Montessori materials are very hands-on, systematically graded & color coded into levels/schemes up till programme completion.

                        Hope this helps.

Please gimme some time to get back to your PM.

                        Best regards, buds.
