Advice for ezcema on lips

Hi, my DS, 7 has on-off lip ezcema problems since one year ago . Seen a dermatogist, prescribed steriod medication. I use aqueous cream, various lip balms but his upper lips still chapped and bleed. I try not to use too much steriod if possible cos of the thinning effect. Also try to eliminate dairy products, spicy & acidic food from his diet, but nothing seems to work. I’m very desperate now and sincerely seek any parents with any ideas (other than medication) to help him overcome this painful and itchy problem. TIA

My DS suffers from it occasionally but luckily rather mild form so far. he had a bad fall last year and the dental nurse rubbed/ clean his mouth with some strong stuff...
The best lip balm we've tried so far is Vaseline Lip Therapy, available in most phamacy at a reasonable price.
We saw a couple of docs, they gave us Elomet cream to be used sparingly and it works wonder. Just one application overnight and ok after that.. ...

Hi, Protopic is non-steriod and is used for eczema around the lips and eyelids and other sensitive parts of the body where the skin is thin. It is costlier - think I paid $65 for a tiny tube - and must be prescribed by a doctor.
Since it’s recurring, you need to find the trigger - as you have been trying to do. I can only think of two possibilities besides food - he’s allergic to certain chemicals or ingredients in the lip balms, or he has a recurring low-grade infection that keeps flaring up, especially with the bleeding, or a combination of both factors. -

Thank you parents for the tips and reminders. Yes, it is very annoying to see DS keeps licking his lips. Has been constantly reminding him not to do so, but he totally ignores my advice. :frustrated: This evening, tried using pure olive oil , hope it improves the dryness, at least its edible!

My DS even bite his lips cause it itches.. ...really upset with him once I put a small amount of Chinese medicated oil on the top area.. After that he stopped..at least when I'm watching.. :faint:
