      Dear Parents,

It's really great to hear your children are settling well in mainstream primary schools. Does anyone know which schools in the Central area are supportive of high functioning ASD children? My child is registering for P1 this year.
      Hi Happystar,

My son will be enrolling next year. I am also trying to see which primary school is supportive.

For central, I heard that the St Andrews Primary is a good one. Not sure if this is central enough for you ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi nugget, are you participating in the P1 registration this year? St Andrews Primary seems too far for me. I will be sending my child to River Valley Primary.

          Hi HappyStar,

how/what they found out that and classified as High Functioning ASD Children in Singapore?

High IQ. act normal but still have ASD traits? and why they still classify as ASD?

Hi! You must send your child for an assessment by qualified psychologist in order to diagnose. These group of children are typically verbal and have high IQ but have some ASD traits, especially in their social skills.[/quote]Soon my son will be diagnosis by kkh physcologist . Hiaz why God make my son in defect :(... Will they wan to get married...

            hi helplessmum3,

you have to be more positive.
our kids are different but definately not less.
i told my girl she is special in her own unique way, and this is what makes her her.
all of us here have gone a long way with our kids, but it will only get better. trust me, they will cope better and improve as they grow up.
you will be smiling at little steps of improvement they make every day. :celebrate:

                    Hi Chibi,

How do you explain to your girl she is special? Did you teach her to tell her friends that she is special as well?

I feel my son is becoming aware that he is different from others. I wanted to tell him that he is different from others, and its okay being so. As he is only 4 yr ++, I am not sure how to tell him without being too \"deep\".

How about using plants as analogy? Different plants need different types of soil and different climates to thrive but are all part of our landscape and have their uses. you can go on and on from there or keep it basic, and kids can see the differences in plants with their own eyes.

At 4 plus, it is not her job to tell the rest that she is different. That is the teacherโ€™s job but if she is inexperienced, she may need some guidance and tips from you. My sonโ€™s kindy teacher explained to them that their special needs classmate is younger and needs more help and will seat the child next to someone who has the temperament to help.

                        Helplessmum3,

Please be strong. All of us here have been through what you went through. After the psychological assessment and if your child is really confirmed under ASD, you will go through another emotional turmoil again.

This is not a easy road and ASD is not something that can be cured. Most importantly help your child while you can. He is only 2.5 yrs old. Early intervention will be very very helpful for him.
