Finally I went there last month to visit my mom. My hubby sent us (me and 2 toddlers to JB), to the bus terminal (Larkin). But i regretted, the journey took longer that what we expected.


On our way back, we took direct coach to Singapore. We alighted the bus at Sg Checkpoint (woodlands) and took a cab home. This one was much more easier. Recommended to anyone who wants to travel to Malacca, faster and safer... :celebrate:

Hi, it's holidays and kiasuparents and kids need a break.

thought of driving to malacca during the 12/13 Dec 09 weekend and stay for 2 niughts or so. Never driven there before so would like some advice on how to drive from second link.

Also any other family also keen on going , thought we can get a few cars and drive together?

Strongly encourage you to start booking rooms ahead cos the good ones are booked up very very fast.

thank you scellan. You first thread seems rather scary ? - so far from most web postings I have read, , quite safe to travel in malacca.

So far we’ve driven up to Malacca couple of times and it’s quite safe and easy to find. One of the hotels (can’t remember if it is equatorial) used to be post very good direction on the website (eg. exit from Ayer Keroh all the way to the hotel with various landmarks to look out for).


The only watchout is beware of speeding. There are usually TP before Malacca. We encountered it at least 3 times.

If you are drving from Tuas checkpoint, it's easy, just follow the sign KL, Malacca... it's about 3hrs drive from Tuas to Malacca... try not to speed above 110km on th highway as three are many hidden laser camera.

It's safe to drive to Malacca and you can saty at Holiday Inn (new hotel) , opposite is the shopping area Mahkota Shopping, Pahlawan shopping and the whole stretch of roads you can find nice food.

If you prefer more quiet and relaxing hotel, try Everly Resort, it's about 20mins drive from Holiday Inn to the hotel. It's a beach resort

If you arrive there on Fri/ Sat, youcan go to Jonker walk in the evening, it's a huge bazaar

we drove there once before…planning to do it another time during Christmas period…not sure when though. We basically just follow the signs from second link but I heard that it is better to go from woodlands side.


I think they have this toll card(?) now which is faster. Suppose to be able to buy at the check point, there is also more rest area.

Some precaution to take though…stop at the rest areas where there are more people. Hear from a malaysian colleague that some robbers target cars that exit at the more wulu areas. According to the colleague, one of the techniques the robbers use is to throw eggs at the car’s windscreen from the bridge above the expressways. When the driver try to use the wiper, the egg yolk will cloud the wind screen and the driver will have to stop at the car to clear the screen as he can’t see the road. Then the robbers will take the opportunity to rob their target. So if sway sway suddenly get eggs thrown on your windscreen…do not use the wiper. Wait till you can get to a rest area with more people before you stop the car…

Hi! Didn't mean to scare you. Malacca isn't scary but if you transit in JB, then it may be a bit more dangerous so if you don't have to to stop in JB, it'll be best. (By the way, I've never been to Malacca but my ex-colleague is from there and she was the one who told me about JB.)
