For those with another child in current school, go to speak with the principal and appeal for his help to get a place in the GEP school. Always bring report book of your other child or even children. Nanyang will put you on waiting list… and you might have to show your face a lot… be thick-skinned and keep on appealing to principal… my friend did that and luckily they have a vacancy and both kids went over in the same year. And it was Mdm Heng who helped her… Mdm Heng is really very very nice… My other friends had to wait for like one year … when girl is in P5, only then the younger child went over.

Rosyth … I believe has the p1 and p2 in the afternoon… so the siblings won’t see each other.

Catholic high - Principal likes parents who can volunteer… and in mission schools… they are only govt aided so… funds are really needed… Heard some parents took care of plants… supply plants lor… some parents took care of the fish… so kept on putting in longkang fish… the boys are free to catch them… and bring home… Catholic High has a very good lifeskills program called Teach me to fish… boys in p4 learn to tie necktie… make sandwiches… and in p5 and in p6 they learn to cook instant noodles, fry an egg and even iron their shirt. Wow!

I am not from MOE... but do have friends who are principals... and I was told that principals have the authority to decide independently on whether to admit more than the actual numbers allowed (eg 40 in a class....)... some places are reserved for kids who are living overseas with parents working there.... they can make that decision independently without consulting MOE.... all schools want kids who can perform... so when your child is gifted your other children's IQ is about 10% plus or minus that of the gifted child.... check research webpage too... So go and appeal FAST... 'cos all other kaisu parents reading this will also do so right... 😄

Thks 2centsworthy, you answered my doubt . I start with thought of letting my boy try ,never thought he get in. He like it so much but now i concern abt distant as i have another kid in another sch n persuade him not to go .But your info might be better than what i might get tonite @ briefing, probably benefit other parents too.

Usually the younger sibling are given priority for moving over to the GEP school if they have vacancies. My friend younger son tag along with the elder son to CHS when this elder son got into GEP. It was really a blessing for the younger son, playful and dislike to study, to tag along and later enjoy the low PSLE cut-off to enter CHS. In future the son of the younger son will continue to enjoy this benefit. 😛

            3G:
My dd's class has about 20+ girls made it through screening and she actually told me that more than half of them firmly said that they will opt out if they are selected, I believe this could be the truth from the bottom of the girls' heart but probably not from their parents.

So he won't be able to take the GEP program back in Singapore. Any advice for kids like him? thanks.

Totally agree with mdm KS … it can be an emotional issue for both of them…

If any one whose child is extremely advance … independent learner etc… you might want to talk to Catholic High… I read in the Chinese papers some years back… about this boy who achieved some O levels Maths in his p4 or p5 year… I was told that the principal actually wrote to some foundation and managed to get him a scholarship to help him pursue some program independently. Can’t remember the details though.

Does anyone has information abt Catholic High. How is the standard and extra classes?

Heard from friend whose son study there and informed by the GEP HOD, they try to put in the HCL, computers, on Wed. They will be having lunch at 1pm and started the HCL 1.35pm to 2.35pm while the mainstream leave school at 1.35pm. After that, computers, etc till 4.30pm which they will have buses for CCAs leaving school.

No other days to stay back unless you got CCAs, remedials, etc..

Kids currently away but has already been selected. I was told that there is a boy in Catholic High graduating batch… he was away till July 07… he came back then. I am not so sure how long MOE would allow that… PLEASE ASK the officers from MOE tonight. Speak with them personally after the general briefing… OR … go there early and ask.

I believe the GEP schools would have some children there to help out… speak with them … I think the schools would get the right type of children to be manning the booth?

For those who is not selected… I do not think there’s a waiting list at all. 550 selected but the actual vacancies shown on the chart by another member showed only 525 places. I heard of a child who had his IQ tested prior to p1… it was above 150 but he did not get into GEP. They appealed… child was devastated… counsellors helped out … yet not admitted toGEP at all. I believe MOE has their own way of testing the kids.
