          syshi:
Heard from friend whose son study there and informed by the GEP HOD, they try to put in the HCL, computers, on Wed. They will be having lunch at 1pm and started the HCL 1.35pm to 2.35pm while the mainstream leave school at 1.35pm. After that, computers, etc till 4.30pm which they will have buses for CCAs leaving school.

No other days to stay back unless you got CCAs, remedials, etc..
Am I the odd one or what...I actually prefer my kids to stay back in school for some activity evey day!! 😎

Hahahah.. they don't want to stress the kids too much... anyway, they will have a lot of filing and organizing to do as most of the materials will be given out from schools... not much using textbooks and depends on the children pace of study also...

To add to the earlier posting on the importance to take into consideration the PSLE year… and its preparation.

Catholic High finished about 2 wks prior to PSLE

Henry Park finished all the drilling and preparation 2 wks prior to PSLE.
              Same for common test etc…

Rosyth - can’t remember what fren said but they had very good social studies notes to share with everyone of us.

RGPS - very ON … so no problem. Always on their toes else parents will be very concerned.

Nanyang - can’t remember but also very on the ball throughout the years.

NHPS - Last year we heard they did it till 2 days prior to PSLE and this year 3 days prior to PSLE.

According to friends who are teachers, they said there is a "peak" when they are drilled for PSLE… after that the kids go downhill. I would think teachers would know what to do… but I think parents would know their kids better and what’s best for your child.

                U R right, syshi,

System nowaday has no childhood. GEP add more stress. Like him to learn more but hurt to c them burn out all energy. Even want to ask is CCA a compulsory. Would rather not if possible.

Personally I would prefer all project works and school work and homework be done during curriculum hours and in school… then my child can just take part in CCA and come home and have lots of time for whatever they would like to do… be it reading, music lesson, watch a good movie, play with neighbourhood friends, time just sitting there to dream… Then when in Secondary school it would be full day in school filled with all kinds of work and CCA and when they get back they still have homework etc. I believe kids should still be kids… they learn very good social skills… lifeskills thru play too.

Same here! Better for kids to complete most project in school, guided by the teachers instead of bringing home and then parents try to figure out the expectation.

As for CCA, I'm all for it!! Really surprise me that parents dun want their children to have CCA. My kids have CCA since P1 and they enjoy going for it. Think that's the time when they really take their mind of school work. Of course, if u join some sports and dei-die must be the gold medallist, then it's a diff story.

In work, when I'm recruiting, I focus alot of CCA. It tells alot more on their leadership quality, EQ

Me too. My kids have CCA since P1 even though it is not compulsory. And also a chance to extend their social skills to befriend kids from other classes, levels.
