we had read in other thread cases of P6 parents last year whose children offered DSA and had accepted the offer. However after PSLE results came out, they wanted to get out of their DSA offer, rush down quickly to another Secondary school make appeal, change school !
so isn't \"GEP DSA advantage\" slapping herself ?
if indeed is an advantage, then we shouldn't be witnessing these happening ! If have to rush down and make appeal, means \"GEP DSA\" had turned into a DISAdvantage instead!

O yes, really! Statistically this does not make sense whatsoever. Score 80% and above for GEP, so likely at least top half of GEP, meaning top 0.5% of the cohort.2ppaamm:

Haha! We are on the same frequency. if a pupil can score 80% and above in their gep, no problem to score above 262 in psle.
Even if he/she misses due to unforseen circumstances such as an illness during psle exam, can always make amends in sec school and choose to transfer later if he/she wishes.
Therefore, using the infamous T-score and bell-curve theory, I did some calculation based upon estimated s.d. of 39 (assuming an aggregate of 250 to be top 10%), it would mean the top 0.5% should score above 264. If those who are successful in DSA don't, then there's something very wrong with either the GEP test, the PSLE, or these children who don't. If there's nothing wrong with any of these, then the DSA is not necessary since they will get into any school, anyway. :evil:
Either way, GEP DSA makes a mockery of our intelligence and a waste of our resources, in the hope of ???

If I have my say, get rid of PSLE as well. No exam should determine the future of the kids so young. Just let them learn! Go for that 'A' levels/IB/Diploma. Again it is one exam. But this exam, you can take and retake and retake and retake. haha.

think DSA is good coz if done properly, the school will take into consideration the other achievements such as CCA, leadership appt, awards, CIP etc. and this will provide a better balance within the school.

Besides the very 'neighbourhood' sports, most DSA are elitist too! And, I say it as a parent with 2 children who went through DSA, so no sour grapes again.
If you are good in soccer etc, you can get into sports school, Ahmad Ibrahim. Good DSA.
But if you want to go into RI, ACSI, HCI, RGS, etc, you will need music ($$$) , swimming ($$$), tennis ($$$), sailing ($$$), badminton ($$$), gymnastics ($$$).... O what nots. BTW, I am not sure which school gives DSA for top leader. Maybe I am ignorant. My guess is there won't be a school. What awards would a good leader bring to the sec school immediately? Schools are fast becoming businesses.
Even going to SOTA, you need ($$$$), that's why it is fast becoming a safe haven for the middle class.
Where is the level playing field?
Balance is not for the student. In our schools, balanced students are rarely rewarded. It is the SCHOOL that is balanced. Balanced by a whole lot who will win academic awards, and another lot who will win sports awards. Very few students are balanced. In fact, if you are not good enough, you are not wanted in a CCA. C'mon, why is a 13 year old too old to learn anything? Nonsense! My friend picked up gymnastics at 13 in school and went on to top the nation 3 decades ago! haha. I am outdated again.
