Hi, does any parents have comments about TumbleTots @ Tampines? They use Letterland Phonics.

My son is using Letterland Phonics in his child care centre. Will there be any problems if I send him to a enrichment school which uses another kind of phonics?

        Heyya danecalymom,

For me at least, my answer will be no.

It will just be a matter of adapting to the so call different style of teaching
phonics. The approach may be different like some school of thoughts will
use cards, some use real objects... others may use Phonics related stories...
or some may work with Phonics characters... (etc) ... and the list goes on...

Learning Phonics is learning the use of letter sounds and its many letter
combinations to assist children in decoding sounds in words, guiding with
early literacy and understanding the rules in some areas. Good Phonics
programme will also adopt a reading routine with the students either with
purchased readers or the teacher's own resource/teaching aid. A good
language coach will also ensure your child(ren) use good diction in their
daily conversational skills and most Phonics pgrms also have advancement
        for continuing with Early Grammar.

Hope this helps clear your doubts.

My DD used to do Tumble Tots lessons as well and she had a blast. 😉

          Dear all

Thanks for all the advices. My child was sick for the past few days 😞 so did not have the chance to check ... now I'm back  .

all.on-one- thank you, JE and CCH ae the 2 that are nearer to me. Will call to check. Do you have any comment for these 2 branches? Are the teachers gd?

Funz -Did you send your child to CCK, I can Read?

Poohbear - for MMI Phonics (JE), I called up to check. They said they grouped 3.5 yrs to 5 yrs old kids in a class. To me, 3.5 yrs old and 5 yrs old are quite a gap. When your DD was there, was her class consisted of children from 3.5-5 or in her age group?

          TIA

No, I did not send my kids to any English enrichments. DD did not have any problems reading. As for DS, if he does not start by end of next year then maybe I will put him in I Can Read.

For MMI Phonics (JE), from what i gathered from other parents, most of the kids are between 3.5 to 4 years. This is what i observed for both DDs classes. The 5 years old could actually take the Express phonics which is a 7 months course compared to the normal 10 months for the younger kids.

DD1 went at 3.5 yrs old while DD2 started when she was nearer to 4. I observed that the learning curve really accelerated when DD1 reached 4. That was why i started DD2 at 4 instead of earlier.

                Hope this helps :celebrate:

Jan & Elly does express class. Eg. 1-1 phonics teaching. But you’ll have to pay a premium. Eg. Entire term fees for 1 week. I heard that alot of K2 does that at the last minute. My son did his express advanced phonics that way too as he started late with the school.
