Original Title: Anyone heard of Sakamoto maths method?
Anyone send his/her child to Sakamoto maths method before? -
Hi,
I have attended the sakamoto briefing before as I was looking for franchise opportunities then. Indeed it is a good method of solving maths problems and provides children another perspective.
However, there are a couple of things that you might want to take note of. Firstly, it’s useful for problem sums only and not all problem sums can be solved in that manner. Secondly, it’s only useful up to P6 as you mostly use algebra from Sec 1 onwards.
Certain children take to this method very well while others may get confused. One setback about this method as well is that during PSLE marking, they may not get a teacher who understands their method of working, thus, may not get the full working marks for their problem sums even if they manage to get their answers correct.
The above is only based on my understanding of sakamoto. You may want to send your child for a couple of trial classes or try to get a copy of their notes to see if you can understand how it’s done coz ultimately, if you yourself cannot understand the method, you may not be able to help guide your child as well. -
I have also attended the franchise briefing. For setting out a tution center just depending on this maths method is not enough but quite impress of how they solve difficult questions. I am also looking for way to teach my daughter maths and was thinking to send her to learn method. I have the same worry as you. The teacher in school might marked her wrong as some school is very strict in giving marks to the working must follow what was taught modelling method. So have you taken any franchise?

No I didn't. The reason being there was a sakamoto centre nearby already and they have an exclusive clause.

But later on in university, they can still use it to solve certain problems if they are in engineering. It works as an innovation approach for some problems.

Went to ask about the course. According to them it seems that it acceptable by school. Any parents or teachers can verify that ?

I have talked to a couple of parents about this before. One of them said her school which was an international school accepted using that method. Then, the other one said it could be used in assignments but it depends on the individual teacher’s preference.

From what i kn they do offer sakamoto math to P1 kids, i have reg my ds for jan classes. I have seen their materials, its starting from bklet 1 onwards. They explained to me since p1-2 not much too difficult problem sums to solve, they will get to do more foundation work. Any parents started their P1 or 2 kids in sakamoto?i wanted to enrol my girl... then found out they only have it for kids from P4 to 6.
