Dunman High School (Junior High)
-
Hi Augmum
I was from DHS and graduated from HCI (College).
I would say that which school you choose depends on the goal your child and you have set for yourselves
Both schools gave me entirely different experiences but I have enjoyed myself thoroughly in both. Whichever school your child eventually ends up in, I am sure she will enjoy herself very much as they are both very good schools, in my opinion.
All the best! -

thks for dropping by this thread and yr sharing.
would like to know why u had chosen to leave DHS for HCI for the 5th and 6th yr. (if u don't wish to explain, it's ok)
also, regarding my question to Roflmao, did u encounter such a problem in choosing yr desirable subjects combination in HCI?
(3) what are the choices for subjects combination in yr5, can u choose freely from the choices or is there a stiff competition whereby only the best of the best are eligible for the popular choices, leaving behind only the unpopular subjects. i asked this question is becos the above was \"experienced\" by my hub's nephew who was currently in HCI.
hub's sister (nephew's mother) commented that if his son would be in DHS, he would have done better, meaning more options for his Uni choices with better subjects combination freely to choose from in DHS. -

P.S. I've no idea how to use PM on this forum either. Doesn't seem like I have an inbox which people can reply to because it always states 'access denied'. Only able to send PM. -

i tried to reply to yr PM but there's no where that i can click on as it stated \"Sender does not accept replies\", so i'll have to post it here.
some more Qns if u don't mind.......or any1 else who happens to have the answers ..........TIA
1) isit rather difficult to transfer from end of yr 4 to another sch from one IP to another IP or JC, esp the top 5 JC. (as u mentioned that u went to HCI)
what are the min criteria req for transferring? does CCA plays a vital role? (my gal would not have a outstanding CCA for sure).
2) what is a typical timetable like for junior high in DHS (put aside CCA, remedial classes). isit all CCA req min twice/week or any clubs only req once/week ? -
hmm. hi. regrading your questions. sports ccas. for me is twice a week. uhm. other ccas range from 2 to 3 times a week. varying during competition period.

a typical timetable is uhm from 8 to 1.45 earliest and 3.45 latest. on mondays school starts at 9 so ends at 2.15. and for the 3.45 days theres probably only once in ten days. the timetable does not go in week but in ten days cos there are more subjects.
and regarding that. in year 2 and year 4 you'll get the chance to switch to vjc. uhm and i think there is a few procedures that you have to undergo to switch but it's possible. but dunman high is alr one of the top 5 jcs.
for dunman high. the best cca would be CO, chinese ochestra, but joining CO would mean more commitment. is your daughter musically or sports inclined? furthermore. as long as she has a cca, it's good enough.
cos we have the CHAMPS and STARS system here. the main ccas are the compulsory CHAMPS. so cca is not much of a worry in secondary school. -
oh. and the clubs and societies are under stars. so she has to take either drama, music, dance, or sports. yep yep. photography clubs and other clubs are second ccas. and are not compulsory.

I think it's not very accurate to say that DHS is one of the top 5 JCs as there are no rankings now.hmm. hi. regrading your questions. sports ccas. for me is twice a week. uhm. other ccas range from 2 to 3 times a week. varying during competition period.

Year 2 - Apply directly to the IP of JCs like TJ, VJ etc. Year 4 - DSA. -

oh.......sad to know that the clubs belong to the STARS CCA, becos she is thinking of taking 2 clubs......
she is not the sporty type, she hates to run abt with a ball with sweat and stink....that's what according to her description lah
she takes ballet in her current sch now......but sadly there's no ballet as CCA in sec sch,
and she don't wish to take dance as CCA as she has enough of dancing outside the sch. so now means no matter what, she has to choose a CHAMPS CCA.
hi summer12345,
i got yr PM, thks alot for yr detailed info. -
uhm. for english dance (eds) they learn differnt kinds of dance. jazz, hip hop, etc.
maybe she could take music then.
