Really ? That's a relief to know that.janet_lee88:
I would like to know if teachers in secondary schools teach...or leave it to tutors. Our kids are facing extreme pressure in P6 this year. Come Sec 1, supposing they manage to get into good sec schools, do present tutors follow up ?
the teachers teach
no more tuition
So whether the child goes to ACS, RI, MGS, RGS, dunearn sec etc, the teachers there do teach right? -
For some primary schools (good ones), teachers barely teach.
So I am wondering if this is the same for sec schools.
Barely teach meaning that just teach the ‘backbone’. The rest of the muscles to be filled up by the students. I heard of teachers in elite sec schools who admitted not having to teach in detail as students have tutors. -

what do you mean by \"barely teach\"For some primary schools (good ones), teachers barely teach.

it will be useful for readers to understand what you mean by that
lots of people like to jump into the bandwagon of labeling \"teachers barely teach\".....
what do they do / did not do to be labelled as \"barely teach\" ? -

No more tuition. Just consult teachers if not clear. Teachers will meet them one on one or in group, and also via email -

most of the time – the kids just need to do their part - ask question if don’t understand, teachers will explain
if they don’t ask teacher, nobody knows if the kids don’t understand what has been taught, and then go home tell mommy they don’t know what the teacher taught, and then mommy say "oh, poor thing", and start looking for tuition teacher … and then come to ksp forum and say such school such teacher don’t teach … all that is needed is to start asking question to the teachers, and pay attention in class
if the kids don’t pay attention and dare not ask question and pretend to understand … and sheepishly go home … that is a different story
parents must empower and encourage their kids to ask question -

Mummy gives teacher the go ahead to scold. -

why scolding for asking ? don't think teachers will scold for asking questions

scolding for not paying in class is alright[/quote]You mean \"playing\" ? -
I believe in working with my kids’ teachers. They can advise how parents can help on the home front. Tutors are supposed to guide…that’s what i feel. But at P6, the teachers cannot go into detail to teach all 40 kids. Not every child can grasp a concept in one or 2 explanations. So, my tutors’ role is somewhat different this year.
Come Sec 1, there are 9 or 10 subjects. How to get him tuition for all subjects ? Not possible. I am not aiming for the top sec school…have to be realistic.
Parents have to remind kids to ask when in doubt. Asking is never wrong.
