In Steven Levitt’s book ‘Super Freakonomics’, he discussed prostitution and why so many women go into it as a career. He did research and found out that if you are a cannot-make-it prostitute, your earnings would have in general declined since the turn of the century as modern, ‘liberated’ women are giving it to men FOR FREE, so there’s no real need to pay for a lay.

However, the high-class prostitutes who are intelligent and pretty and highly selective make tons of money. That’s probably why the underaged girl went into the profession. Frankly, look at her clientele. They were mostly educated and established men with A LOT to lose if they abused her. I’m betting they actually made pleasant conversation before and after the event, cos it’s part of the whole pretense that it’s not a sordid transaction. I agree with Chenonceau that prostitution is a necessary evil in society; I also believe that it’s very bad for the persons involved physically and emotionally in the long run. Something to do with the soul.

For comparison, there’s a 60-something-year-old prostitute who used to frequent my area. I was told (by the neighbourhood aunties) that she has been plying her trade for decades and charges 20 bucks a session. She wore garish pink lipstick, used to urinate in the bushes near my place and had dead eyes. I felt so sorry for her. I wouldn’t want anyone to end up like that. Ever.

Question for guys and girls: do you think celibacy is not possible as a lifestyle? I’m not being judgemental; I really wanna know, cos I’ve got 3 boys and I hope they stay celibate till marriage (our religious beliefs). Are the sexual urges very hard to overcome and is it just easier for women cos the libido is not so active?

\"Howard Shaw's wife 'very sad' about the whole affair

Described by Shaw as level-headed and patient in the magazine article, she declined comment yesterday, telling The Straits Times only that she was \"very sad\" about the whole affair\"

Got this from the news....the hurt she feels....nobody can ever understand

Howard shaw married meh ? I thought he is divorced.

\"\"TWO months ago, green activist Howard Shaw appeared with his wife on the cover of a high-society magazine for an article on enduring love stories.

Yesterday, the scion of the prominent Shaw family went to court with his wife Jessie Xue by his side, to be charged with paying for sex with an underage girl.

He was among four men who were charged yesterday, joining 44 other men who were charged on Monday, for having paid sex with the same girl.

Forty-one-year-old Shaw, a former Singapore Environment Council (SEC) executive director, allegedly had sex with the girl on Oct 30, 2010, in Hotel 81 Bencoolen.

Shaw and his wife got married last November, and were featured on the cover of Singapore Tatler in February for a feature on \"Great Romances\". They met six years ago when she was participating in a Miss Earth pageant and he was training and judging contestants.

Madam Xue appeared calm as she sat next to her husband in the Subordinate Courts yesterday, but left quietly on her own after he was charged.

Described by Shaw as level-headed and patient in the magazine article, she declined comment yesterday, telling The Straits Times only that she was \"very sad\" about the whole affair.

Her husband, an SEC employee for 15 years and a third-generation descendant of Shaw Organisation co-founder Runme Shaw, appeared upset during the entire hour he spent in the Subordinate Courts. He tripped over his words when answering District Judge Lim Tse Haw's question about whether he had surrendered his passport for bail.\"\"

I dunno also I saw it in the news

          According to today's \"Today\" newspaper,

\"The gag order, which prohibits the publication of any details that could lead to the identification of the girl, also applies to members of the public.\"

I am a little concerned becos the earlier links provided by some of our forummers may very well have revealed the girl's identity.
Let's exercise some caution when mentioning the girl. 😄
Good advice while d gag order is in place for duration of trial.
Whilst some of u may be tempted to share dis info, dis is not d right time.
U may discuss about her, but no names n pix please.

Getting tougher in dis day n age when one can see 'sex' used as a marketing tool
for lifestyle choice everywhere n porn proliferation on d internet.
Going by reports, d young are starting younger these days.
Males r wired differently fr women.
Can only suggest close monitoring n inculcating right set of values.

I worry immensely for my boys in this regard. I think in our day, sans internet and a more conservative culture overall, the temptations and opportunities are not so prevalent. It is a much changed society these days. I strongly advocate celibacy pre-marriage, but I am slowing coming to the view that I will not hold it against my children..........they will have different challenges and will need to manage them in their own way, and it is perhaps not fair for me to judge or impose.

I did write in another post that boys/men need to 'guard guard guard' against such wiles. Its not meant to be anti-women, but I think the way the law is right now, the men really stand to be at the losing end.

                  1) Beauty pageant wife still older than that girl.
                  2) The girl offers more services than the wife.
                  3) The beauty pageant wife is for him to show around at black tie events. She is just for show.

Actually his Chinese language standard is pretty high!

In that 2 sentences, use many 好词好句 and convey the intended message very clearly.

                    I'm not being sarcastic here.

Fully agree with what you say. The old adage was that girls will be at the losing end; but in this day and age, seems like men have a lot more to lose. will have to keep such lessons in mind to inculcate what I can in my boys.
