why so many pple seems to believe fully when pple just put up a picture and says \"she's the one\" etc..
Fine. let's leave it at dat.

Chenonceau:

Some kindness would become us, no?
I believe, part of the function of the law, is not to punish, but to provide deterrence.

Deterrence is a very powerful tool to keep law and order in a society.

Say, You dish out kindness to this woman.. and undermined the effectiveness of deterrence.. as she got away scot free. And \"some\" other young girls, seeing no \"risk\", jumps into the trade, for the $$$$ or watever. A decision they may regret later.

Are you being kind to the other naive young girls?

I say, be kind to the society. Send the right message. give the woman her due punishment. Not for the men (they don't deserve it), but for the good of the young and innocent in the society.

Ok, not about the case directly anymore, but I was told that men get aroused by sight and girls by touch. Our ancestors had great wisdom in separating the sexes in the past. The youths today are too caught up with the whole idea of being ‘modern’ and ‘liberated’, so playful touching goes on pretty frequently. I had a JC schoolmate who used to put his arm around me quite a bit. Being 17 and dumb, I wasn’s sure how to react. Before long, I started having romantic notions. Thankfully, he found a new target and moved on. The moment the touching stopped, I could step back and say, ‘yewww, yuck!’

And some of the clothes I see being worn in public… hwah, let’s just say there’s more skin than cloth. Let’s teach our kids to safeguard themselves and not even get into situations which are vaguely compromising. As my pastor put it, don’t trust your own flesh. Don’t think you are strong enough to withstand temptation cos there’s when you’ll probably end up being tempted. Be like Joseph in the bible and RUN from your boss’s gorgeous wife who is trying to start an affair with you!

But not everyone believes in God.

Right like me.
But I believe in Mother Teresa. ( even got her autograph :imanangel: )
This is very true cfan.. :hugs:
Thanks for your heartwarming quotes.

Now however since she's still here living...
she has no choice but to face the music. Times
have sure changed. It's so easy to disfigure a person's
character and everything else with the tap a tapping of the
keyboard. Sentenced before even being charged. The girl in
mention will face harsh times and I dread to think many other
skeletons wud slowly surface. No parent wud want to see their
children's faces or photos splashed across media n tabloids n to
read all the nasty things... 😞 ... cos sometimes when children hv
make these mistakes it is often too easy to blame parenting ways
and values whereas there are many a times the parents are really
good n respectable ppl. I dun need a gag order. I hv children too..

I'm not in favour of splashing maids pics online too but tts a story
for another thread. 😉

Why does everyone think that not revealing her identity means she will not be punished?

Must identity be splashed all over the media for punishment to be meted. I do not think she should be let off without bearing any responsibility for all that has happened. But I do not think there is a need to name and shame.

The girls mentioned - did they have the maturity to think thru their act?
Do they know who is the one who is truly going to be hurt in the end?
They think they are smart - can fool mum, they are cool - can do adult stuff, they think they are brave beause they dare - but DO they do they really realise what they are upto ? I dont think so .

If some men decide to take advantage of them - how easy , just how easy it would be? especially if there were no onus on the men.

Well, it seems pretty one-sided to me. Loads of sympathy for pretty egregious behaviours, and the men....all predators yes?

Men taking advantage? I wonder....

I know where you and Chen stand on this, and I know where I stand, and so be it. But I know if my boys get entrapped (God forbid) in the future, despite everything I do, then they are culpable and face up to the music, but I'm not buying 'innocent naive girl' story for a single second.

I seriously doubt dat she is taken advantage of when she willingly n openly advertise her services in public,
n she was reportedly in direct contact with some men on some transactions.

Rehabitation, second chance n given space to rebuild her life – I will second dat anytime.

I find it hard to swallow dat there is no accountability for her role – where is d justice in d law?
Wat is d msg being conveyed to all those underage ‘aspirants’ dat I saw in today’s New Paper headline wanting to be social escorts? ‘It’s OK if other ppl’s lives r messed up but we will make our money n get away scot-free?'
Agree.. we are not talking about a young 12 yr old being raped. That of course will earn loads of sympathy. We're talking about a very enterprising young woman here who knows the shortest way to easy money and that Prada dag. Some of her encounters she had with the men were not even through the pimp. It's private transactions. So what do you think she's made off? Innocent gullible material? I seriously doubt so.

However, I do feel that we should give her a second chance with rehabilitation if she sees the need to change. But on no account should she get away without any responsibilty on her part. She's 17 , not 12. We would expect a certain level of maturity at least knowing what is right and wrong.

Even a pri school kid if caught flouting rules in school will be disciplined before being given a 2nd chance.

This whole saga just makes me think I should spend more time communicating moral values to my child whether it's a DS or DD.

Yup. She's also NOT the only one advertising her services (being a teenager).
Aplenty in varying online classifieds and online forums.
Yes I caught a glimpse of these when I started to follow dis case.
SYTs, n d pix were selected/designed to entice.

I also came across some writings by Neil Humphrey who wrote dat
he was appalled by his sightings of many SYTs soliciting in Geylang.

d temptations r out there.
Removing one less temptation is one less worry for parents.

can parents kindly share ... how to advise P5/ p6 kids, Secondary school to poly / JC teenagers nowadays (both sons and daughters) to keep their body chaste, till they get married one day ? and how not to get influenced by classmates who boast their \"sleeping\" experience ?

after this incident, this is a very important topic for Parenting Teenagers. Thank you for sharing.
Deterrence.. STD etc.. show them all the disgusting pictures of the illness.

raincoats are not 100% safe.

only abstinence is 100% safe.

the law will punish the 50+men and destroy their live and career… but that’s not the end their families will be greatly affected too…

what have their families done to deserve this punishment? wife married wrong husband or parents not watching their sons close enough??

the girl should be punished too… for doing it for money… if she was doing it unwillingly then she can be spared but is not the case here…
