if you have a smops platinum, plus reasonable grades in other subjects, DSA into HCI should be quite assured

Thanks. How about DSA to RI? Managed to get only Credit for RIPMWC with near 98 percentile?

RI - can safely say no chance, not even 98.6%tile ..........unless you really score in the selection test

Nevermind lah, will give him a hug for the effort

Compare the names of finalists in NMOS with SMOPS, it shows very much consistency of individual performance, but read through RIPMWC’s top 50, not many of them even in NMOS and SMOPS’s medal list. Wonder what is RI’s rationale in selecting math talents…

the types of questions in nmos and smops are very different in style compared with RIPWMC questions

RI's selection test in math domain consists of out of the world type of questions

those who did well in nmos and smops should have no problem clearing the RI's GAT, even thought it is 60 questions in 20 minutes

RI's stated objective in the math domain is \"ability / talent beyond peers\", not simply at the top of the peers.

                  DSA is different from MO.

being top in MO does not mean one has the ability beyond peers.....even these boys who top the MO does not necessarily possess ability beyond peers but they still get into RI due to high t-score from PSLE, if they have not accepted CO from other DSA schools

each DSA school has their own right / discretion how they select students. we can only say RI sets very high standard, reasonable or not is a separate issue.

Hi, I had just started to look out more on Maths enrichment for my son and well, I’m indeed still consider "green" in all this discussion in this thread. did not knew that participate in SMOP could DSA to HCI. I thought only on CCA.

Actually, still not sure on what courses will suit my son best. He is in P4 and his result is above average but he did told me that maybe he need some help whereby he can learn to solve problem sum more easily and faster. May I know what is the different between OM and heuristic Maths, which kind of training best suit my son? TIA.

So, how many students are invited to sit for the maths selection test? Are those in the top 50 earn themselves a ticket for the selection test? How many eventually get through the maths domain DSA? Thx.

52 students were awarded Distinction or High Distinction in RIPMWC 2012.
80 students were awarded Platinum in SMOPS 2012.

Only 13 students were awarded both Distinction/High Distinction and Platinum.
