GEP 2011 - Screening & Selection

It's a project whereby they need to work on an EL & SS interdisciplinary unit which culminates to an ID task. For each group, they are supposed to take on a persona of an early migrant in 1890 Singapore, do research on life in Singapore around 1890 & the implications of these for the persona, prepare a 2-3 min speech script to present himself/herself as the best candidate so as to win a seat in the Legislative Council of the Straits Settlement. They are also required to prepare 'field questions' for their classmates during the 'public meeting' or campaigning session & in turn, be ready to answer questions from their classmates in other groups during the role-playing. The project will be assessed by both EL & SS teachers. Not so sure if the same applies to other schools.

Not much information on the early migrant in 1890 leh:(
the significant moment/incident must also happen ard 1890????ard 1890 means 1840 to 1920 or what????
got significant moment/incident happened at that time meh???

Not too sure what to do? Teachers also did not give clear
instructions :frustrated:

For my DS2, they are given a persona for each team and they are supposed to collect info about what happened during 1890s and find out what are the implications for the persona, present themselves as one of the candidates for the election.

If you have done your research carefully, you will be able to find out what are the problems the new immigrants were facing during that time & the effects on them, so as to why they want to be part of the team of Legislative Council.

Not sure if it's the same for your DS/DD school.

When is the presentation, I'm not so sure yet, but already told DS2 to prepare for it. I miss out something too, they are supposed to come out with at least 3 questions about the presentations to ask the other teams during the Q&A session. All the three members in the team MUST ask at least 1 question in order to gain team points.

DD just did mock test for eng and SS… OMG! she failed both! the teacher had said no one ever failed SS, will she be the first?.. how to prepare for SS and eng? its so diff from mainstream…

My DS2 also get below passing marks for most of his English worksheet & according to him, most of his classmates also the same, so no need to worry :yikes: hope so

U saw the mock paper? It's really challenging ESP the SS.

I really hope she won't set the record to be the first to fail Ss.

I did see the mock test paper of SS, I think it was last Friday's homework if I am not remember wrong. Yes, bit tough, not only remember the basic concept, you need know how to use the concept and do analysis.
