Jennifer:
Thanks for sharing, agree that giving the children age-appropriate chores and making them realize they are accountable instills a sense of responsibility in them, which in turns helps in building up their independence.
I believe we can start small by letting the child takes on more responsibility at home, handing sch work, etc.
It also depends on the child. Some mature earlier, some later. My 2 boys are living examples.
There's still a lot for me to learn on this topic... -

Yup I did. In fact, I was sitting rite next to JRLam and we busied ourselves watching a tennis match between the sch mgt and some of PH parents during some parts in the Q&A. And then we have JoeeYee dressing as though she is going to a party afterwards.

Ok it was a lazy Sat morning so I only allowed myself to remember 3 things.
** PH is really good in all things dancing. Be it RG, Chinese dance or some other dance which I can't recall now, seems like we've been gold medal winners since time immemorial.
** The big change is for P2. It used to be 100% SA2 as stated in the handbook. Now it seems that T2 holistic assessments will consist of 30% with the 2nd semester covering the other 70%. That understandably caused consternation amongst some parents, due mainly to the abruptness (in timing) of the message.
Very interesting dialogue happened afterwards, including impromptu accolades for the sch by 2 mummies - you mums are my heroes - amidst the general backdrop of what I sensed as an air of scrutiny of the sch's performance by the audience; which is good in a way as it demonstrated involved parenting.
Due to the concerns (and may I add persistence) of some parents, P agreed to have a survey amongst P2 parents on the implementation of the 30-70% rule.
** The PA system urgently needs an upgrade as this is the 2nd time I couldn't hear the speakers clearly on stage. Maybe towkay php can write a 5-figure cheque to the sch and they can name the improved PA system after him. :siam:

But pressure cooker ornot, I wanna be like you leh. Just try my best to support ds's work and leave everything else to fate or God (depending on how religious one is).
At the same time, never forget to learn to laugh at our shortcoming and dont take our ego too seriously. Then life's a peach. And my son gets to go to RGS. -

Psst Happy Mama, ex-PH parents are also allowed to post in words here you know.FQW:

I cannot help but feel sorry for P...seems like parents no longer hold T or P in high respect nowadays....like my parents' time.
I feel P was like a cust svc officer trying to appease some :siam: angry customers.
Seriously, 30% of T2/3/4 or 30% of T3/4...i don't really care....as long as my son is happy to go to school every day and loves learning, that's my greatest comfort. I agree that the school needs to improve on its communication with parents, but i disagree with some of the \"tone\" and \"attitude\" as displayed by some parents that i see on sat morning's meeting.
For parents who don't agree, don't flame me, just my personal opinion only. :siam: -
Itβs not easy to please allβ¦some people are really troublemakers even though if they are highly educated. On the other hand, the school needs to work hard to improve communication with the parentsβ¦for eg try to find out how parents can coach their kids. The P needs to work on PR with parents.
Take P5 example, it is a drastic step from P4. If the school can organize workshops for parents to understand certain subjects to coach kids at home, this will be appreciated. Yes, parents will hire tutors somehow but if school really want to show that it cares, this could be a way. -

This scenario is not unique to PH. I've a teacher friend who told me this anecdote. There was this parent who wrote in to her P insisting that his child be promoted to a prefect; apparently somewhere in the letter he took great effort to mention his high standing in society.

Of course P rejected his case lah. Otherwise it'll be mayhem if everyone who thinks that he belongs to upper strata of society starts writing in to push for their own agenda.XYZ1:
That's the greatest indicator isn't it? Whether our kids are happy, confident of themselves, has good EQ while striving in a competitive env. like PH.Seriously, 30% of T2/3/4 or 30% of T3/4...i don't really care....as long as my son is happy to go to school every day and loves learning, that's my greatest comfort.
Btw I think my son has too much confidence oredi ... take for instance he recently failed one of those problemsum assignments, I gave him daggered looks - of course I will, I'm no saint - and his immediate retort was, \"I've already done my best and you said that's good enough!\"
