      Helplessmum,

Dun be worry, if your son is already in EIPIC, I am sure he is in good care. Have faith in your son's teachers and therapist. I often call them to ask abt the progress of my son. You need need to work hand in hand with the EIPIC to help your child.

Rainbow is a good centre and PECS is one good way to communicate with kids.

        DesertWind,

The parents course, though, time consuming, but I find it better for us. Cos its my first kid, and I do not know if I am managing him correctly or not. Anyway, what I’ve learnt I also applied it on my no 2. So far it works.

It focus on rewarding for good behaviour, when bad behaviour, we cannot give in and we always need to follow up with negative consequence. And I learnt that is always a lot of prep work to be done.

        Example Dining out:
        1. Tell him first that we are going where, what to eat, what to expect, what he most likely be eating, and after meal he must wait for everyone to finish the food then can go. Else daddy mummy will be sad.
        2. Tell him if he behave, finished his food on his own. we will order a dessert (usually ice cream/cake) for him. but ONLY if he finishes he food and sit properly on his seat.
        3. While waiting for food to come, we usually give him iphone to keep him busy else he will be bored waiting.

I realized we need to keep telling him what events going to happen so he wont panic. So far it works. And reward him only when he does correct things. So he is motivated.

            Helplessmum,

Nope. They say they dun do PECS or ABA specifically. Cos his center has not only ASD children, but also those mildly intellectually disabled or slower kids as well.

They do structure programs, OT, classroom activities, social group therapy etc instead.

But I do see they make use of picture cards to do structure routines and lay out activities.
