Hmm… So a below 18 can be charged for murder (n be detained in prison for a period of time) but cannot be charged for prostitution?
‘He’ is matured enuff to know that he cannot murder someone but she is not matured enuff to know that she shouldnt prostitute herself… ??
Sounds abit weird leh… So is a 18 yr old matured or not matured enuff? Or maybe they are selectively matured enuff to do certain thgs… -

The boy who was brainwashed to kill Annie Leong is still in prison. Detained at president's pleasure, which is about 20 years at least. It's quite true that the girl should face punishment like a short term in girls' home and counseling to find out why she slept with these men at an age she should be studying hard.Hmm... This thread quite quiet hor...
As I read these posts, I wonder if the then-17yo prost will really leave the sex industry after this episode.
This website offers some insight:

To this courtesan blogger (also a student), prostitution is an addiction cos the $$$ gives her the self-esteem she needs badly. Although she is beautiful. Although she is intelligent. Although she ... seems normal. -
As I read through the posts on this topic, having this question in mind..
would the wife prefer her husband to visit prostitute, or have an affair??
both are not being faithful, but which is worse??
I know of a REAL case..the husband is having an affair with his ex-girlfriend, who is also married & both already have kids..
It has been going on for ard 2 years, but not discovered by their spouses YET..both claim they are having problems with their spouses..
I find it totally unacceptable!!
But as an outsider, though I pity the wife & feel like telling her(who is just an acquaintance, but her hubby who is cheating on her, is my hubby's ex-colleague), but really do not want to be the one to tell her the cruel truth..
in case any unfortunate thing follows, I will become the sinner!! (instead of the her hubby who cheated on her in the 1st place)..
anyway, with this 'principal' case, being an educator, also can do such unfaithful immoral thing, plus the above real case, I just tell myself not to expect too much from people..BUT I still have total trust in my hubby
at least until now..& hopefully till our hair turn white

You'll be surprised how many of my female (not just male) friends who are disgusted that the law seems to be protecting the very person who is an antagonist not really a victim in this crime. Finally someone asked a question that has been on my mind since the scandal broke! Good job, FQW!
Personally, I feel the underaged hooker should be punished under the law as well. But unfortunately our law tends to protect the underaged when it comes to sex crimes, regardless whether it was consensual or not. But murder is another story. There were previous cases of underaged murderer being jailed for life, at the President's clemency. Remember Anthony Ler's case? I think the 16-yr-old boy is still in jail.
I think most people agree that we need to have laws to protect naive, underaged gals from being exploited. But in this case from what I read, this gal - I'm refraining from using more demeaning words so that it doesn't sully my name - contacts the clients herself too and keeps track of her 'transactions' in a diary. How naive and innocent is that?
Such antiquated laws!
But I reserve my strongest condemnation for that stupid pimp who through his greed, got many people into so much more trouble than they truly deserve (in my opinion). Admittedly, they commited vice. But for that, they're being judged as paedophiles. -
FQW:
Likewise.....i have no pity for her. Totally disgusted by her. She being pityful? Innocent? I doubt so. In fact, she is sooooooo mature and business savy enough to even contact her clients and keeping tracks of her transaction in her diary. She ought to be punished.

Putting her in girls' home or giving counselling are way too easy for her. She ought to be punished and the punishment must be tough to deter others to follow suit. Some crap laws protecting underaged hooker. With this episode, i sincerely hope the law should change. I am hoping to see what criminal lawyer Subhas Anandan can do to turn around this crap law. -

Such is the hypocrisy of our LAWS.Hmm... So a below 18 can be charged for murder (n be detained in prison for a period of time) but cannot be charged for prostitution?

Murder and prostitution are very different.

Murder and prostitution are very different.
Of course everyone agrees that they belong to different degrees of crime.
But let's not blind ourselves that BOTH are crimes.
Our big peeve is what we see as major inconsistencies in the application of the law in this case and Anthony Ler's case.
Or are you insinuating that it is alright for the underaged to steal since stealing should be a 'lesser' crime than prostitution (under the eyes of most people)?
