If school gives past year paper, it is not a waste of time doing...the prob is when to get them done, and whether teachers give correct answers and explain them in OE section. This week, the kids are having Oral. Btw, oral exams have to be prepared, not just sit there and yak whatever comes to mind.

Honestly, kids should NOT be given any hw these 2 weeks.
Right now, it's whether which is more important - time management or getting homework done ???
Some kids do not take naps in the afternoon, so by 930pm, it is understandable they are tired.
worst my dd's teacher provide them with answer, want them to do marking themselves. What's the point of loading homework without going thru with the students. Sometimes I really hope less homework so she can start doing revision for PSLE

        Hi 24hr_mum,

This seems to be the norm that teachers will just flash the answers on the screen or just give them the answer sheet without the run through. They cited \"no time\" cos rushing thought the syllabus. So what I do is to get my DD to look through those questions that she did wrong and understand why she could not secure the marks for the answers. Those Maths questions that she got it wrong, we will re-do it again on another exercise book.

            Hi mummies,

Are your kids done with oral and compo yet ?
Mine was done with oral last week…2moro EL compo.

For SA1, I heard some schools set exam papers almost like PSLE. My son’s school sets such tough standard that it is demoralizing. So I tell myself not to bother and stress myself over the grades.

              Dear mummies,

For most P6 pupils (say, 95% of them), it is normal for them to score lower marks for their Maths for CA1 and SA1.

So, do not worry too much about the SA1 marks, but work hard towards the PSLE in Sep.

A few years ago, I had a student who failed her Maths in SA1, but worked hard and managed to score A* for PSLE, and got into RGS.

So, great improvement is always possible, with hard work and, of course, parental support.

              Keep up the good work.

Hang in there Janet, We know schools have a strategy of scaring kids & parents by setting very high standards but do not prep our kids adequately. Look for signs of progress. That's what I'm telling myself and my DS. Since I've been analyzing his gaps and plugging specific areas, that's how I'll be measuring DS success. I'm targeting section by section for each paper, topic by topic.

Everytime before exam, I tell DS, i'm not measuring his success by grades. I'm looking for demonstration of skills & techniques. If he uses what I've taught him, I'm ok if he gets it wrong because of complexity of question. Everyday, now it's all about demonstrating of exam strategies, time management, using of checklists for skills.

Most schools do not prepare kids well for exams. I've been rather hands-off my son this year since he has tuition. But I fill in the gaps for english and science. This year, I have been focusing more on my daughter who is in p2 as she has just Chinese tuition once a week. Totally :salute: those mummies who have 3 or more kids.

                    Hi Janet,

Don't stress yourself up too much. Children do take up the vibes if we are stressed or frustrated. You have to look at the overall setting of the paper and the performance of the cohort as a whole. I heard from some friends whose kids had taken PSLE cautioned that CA1 and SA1 are meant to be a wake up call to the children. :siao: Focus on the final results - PSLE. :rahrah:

More importantly now is to ensure that our children don't get burn-out, stay healthy and to give them the moral support that they need. :rahrah:

Tomorrow my DD having EL paper 2. Exam fever is on - she having exam and I am now running a fever :faint:

Anyway, do keep up the fighting spirit and cheer them on ! :rahrah:

                      Hi fighting mom,

                      Thanks for the advice.
You take care of yourself...get well soon.

Focus on the big picture...PSLE. I will remember that 😉

Tomorrow’s MT oral & EL1, yet sch gave so much hw tt need to hand in the next day. DS came home close to 5pm as EL oral today till 4.30pm.

This is the 1st time I told him cannot finish nvm, the most 迟交. But still, i’m upset as he will have more hw piled up & no time to revise his MT1 on Fri.
