Piling up homework at P5, P6 - why can’t exams be abolished and have a better spread of work done over the semesters? That provides healthier and more consistent learning which I think is more effective.

coz psle is one big exam. on spreading exams throughout the year, depends on how one sees it. some see it as tougher as every 3 mths got big test that matters, while others prefer instead one big exam better at end of year to see if child can progress to next level.

My point is that that emphasis should be on learning, and not about testings or exams. Anyway, I am still boggling over this issue, and not conclusive in views. Would be nice to see more sharing here.

            Oppsgal:

Parents can ask for model answers from teachers?

Ask the teachers to mark the homework by a deadline set by parents if they do no mark the homework. :rotflmao: Parents give homework for teachers since got pay them school fees.
Ya lor, they are paid to mark and ensure students understand their work 😉

If we ask for model answers, they will assume we parents can help them to mark all homework. We parents especially the working parents are already running on a non stop treadmill and now still got to mark school work :spank: :nunchuk:

All schoolwork should as much as possible be done in school, teachers mark and correct them with proper comments, no need to rush like a runaway train in giving homework, priority should be ensuring that the students understand the work and not coming up with some glitzy lesson plans to please the Principal, MOE or meet KPIs. Minimise the need for tuition, please.

How to ask for model answers to self mark? Most of the worksheets are not even returned, esp. for those in P5/6.

Why worksheets not return? Keep for what?

I would prefer schools not give homework during holidays. I prefer to set my work for my kids…since it is holiday, I want to be in charge of my kids’ timing. For eg, revising and reinforcing areas/topics they are weak in.

Maybe mornings we get 2 hours of work done, then bring them out to enjoy and then return home to rest. Maybe read 1 hour and then watch tv.

Teachers afraid that the kids will lose them? My kids will usually receive their subject files only on the weekend before any CA/SA. Ended just flip through the pages before exam day!

At least yours was returned and marked. Some of my DD worksheets since term 1 still \"no sound no news\" ! :faint: Can't even flip through the pages ! :scared:

It gives the impression that the teachers are doing their work by giving tons of homework and overloading the kids for PSLE.

When I request for my elder's P6 work to be returned last year for the younger one, the form teacher's face turn pale. She keeps on saying she will need to sort them out first, no time, etc. So my last year P6 did not get back most of the work for revision and the younger one also has nothing to refer this year. I ask my younger child to ask this teacher and she says when she has time then she sort out. Most likely she has thrown them away even before the elder one graduate. Must as well tell the truth then beat around the bush.
