This reminds me of an incident.
I had an unexpected guest who dropped by. He loves spicy food and found my sweet and sour chicken meatballs that i made that day too bland, and asked for something to give it a kick. My helper offered to give her sambal. He couldn't stop raving about it. In the end, she packed some in a Tupperware and gave it to him, after checking with me first lah ...
I have yet to try it though .... she never offered it to me leh

(b) Lurpak Butter (what on earth is that? Mine Cold Storage butter leh?) :?
(c) Home-made Bread (mmm...yummy, yummy!)
(d) Nespresso... (sounds really luxurious!)
Almost expect you to list bird-nest for dessert next!

(a) Billingtons ( brand) Demerara sugar
(b) Lurpak is a brand of butter. I get it for my son. DH and I hardly eat butter
(c) I have a bread machine
(d) Coffee machine.
Dessert is always fruit. Sometimes indulge in Walls or Hagaan Daaz lah
Birds nest??? Errrr no, took it during pregnancy and PD said that it's possibly one of the causes of DS' mild eczema :shock:
You lucky leh!!! Grocery done by DH. Mine is averse to it. Doesn't even want to go near a supermarket.
So for me, Monday, which is NTUC day, will be an opportunity for me to
have some ME time to myself

No, certainly not pathetic at all, shopping (even for groceries) is also one kind of retail therapy that will do us some good! My "me time" is my lunch time at work!
By the way, before somebody protest we OT, here is my maid news:
(a) My PIL’s maid came today - finally after almost 6 weeks!
(b) My mother’s maid going home this week, finishing her contract already. Replacement maid coming in next week.

actually hiring maids is really a gamble. we've had many bad experiences with maids and some even end up scarring our children or the elderly. but that doesn't make all of them bad eggs as well.
as with all people, there are some good ones and some bad ones. had a great experience with my maid of 12 years, she was a fantastic home keeper, great patient and understanding individual and took care of the children so well she was like a mom to them.
unfortunately she needed to return to her husband in phillipines.

I do not take jam, peanut butter, etc, since the doctor says I have to control my sugar intake. That means I buy my maid her own spreads. But even if I could take sweet stuff, I will still buy my maid her own jam, etc. It is up to each employer to set the house rules and it has absolutely nothing to do with treating your maid as a ‘pariah’. Employers should not be made to feel guilty for not embracing their maids into their family’s bosom just because she works in their household. Let’s be very clear - a maid is an employee, not your blood relative. So long as she is fairly and respectfully treated, it is up to individual employers to decide for themselves how close a working relationship they want with their maid. To avoid any misunderstanding, I prefer to draw the line and keep things on a ‘professional’ level. That is not to say that we do not share a few jokes now and then, and my maid knows that she can always turn to me for help and advice if she has any problems. This has worked very well for both of us and my maid is into her third contract with me.

yup, well said! I agree tat employers shld not feel bad about setting their own house rules. After all, we set rules for our childrens behaviour and a maid is an employee here under work permit to do a job. No one has the right to impose their personal preferences on us and tell us how to run our households. -
I agree with MyFriend. Different folks different strokes. That’s what I want to do, just keep the relationship as employer and employee.
This reminds me of an incident. My ex Burmese maid turn around and say I never give her off day in some months. I was mad. After this, I ask her to sign for her off day every month just like her salary. It’s kind of stupid but she leaves me with no choice.
Generally, I think how we treat our maid is shaped by our past experience with our own maid. -
Nearly have a heart attack :yikes: when I saw my maid standing on high chair to clean the outside of the windows.
Told her many times no need to clean outside. Just lock windows and wipe inside ok already. Watched her a few times okay. But today went into room and horror......
She has been good so far but sometimes still a bit communication problem...
